Obviously this is a sickening thought to any American who has ever had a cat or dog that they loved. It has a similar feeling to canibalism. But that's just our culture and what we've grown to accept. Why is eating a dog any different from eating a cow? Two reasons. First, we grow up accepting that the cow is food and the dog is not. Second, we have no attatchments to any heffer that we stuff down our gullets.

Eating dog meat is common
in the Philippines.
Not for food
but as an accompaniment
for liquor.
And the poor folks here
do not have a cocktail hour.
They drink anytime they want
and these drinking binges
sometimes last for
two to three days and nights.
Often, one or several
of their drink buddies get killed
in some stupid argument.
One for the road?
One for the grave.
If any of you would come
visit the Philippines
and ever get in an argument
or worse, a fistfight
with a Filipino male...
lose your arrogance,
lose in the argument,
or just plain be the loser.
Why?
Filipinos do not like losing.
It is an insult to their manhood.
They would knife you with no qualms.
Balisongs or fan knives
are openly sold everywhere here.
Filipinos pack these balisongs
as a clothing accessory.
Even our cops keep them
around their waists.
It is a habit.
Oh, the price of one live dog here?
PhP50 (USD1) or one dollar.
Hey, American Indians
eat their pet dogs too.
