I'm gonna have to say:

Steve Vai
Alexi Laiho
Dave Mustaine

Not so much Yngwei because he just does the same shit over and over and over. There are 14 year olds on YouTube that are better.

Satriani for sure. He taught most of the "best guitarists" around today.

My vote's still for Buckethead, though. If you haven't heard him, give him a listen. He does a lot of metal, but he's done a little of everything at one time or another. He's really one of the best (and most eclectic) musicians out there.

Him or Gilmour. Gilmour just because he plays with the most heart and feeling of any guitarist I've ever heard. And he's a brilliant composer. Meh, I couldn't choose.

You guys have named many of the greats but no one has given any props to Keith Richards yet, or the Reverend Horton Heat.

Kieth Richards is commendable for being the world's first completely preserved living guy. After the nuclear war, there will be cockroaches and Kieth Richards.

As for my favorite guitarists:
Kerry King
Greg Lake
Dave Mustaine
Pete Townshend
Eric Clapton
Jeff Beck
Dimebag Darrell

And my favorite bassists:
Tal Wilkenfeld
John Entwistle
some others but I'm bored with this shit.

I have no desire to keep track of every guitarist's name, even the ones I like... but the one from Megadeth, I think his name is Dave Mustaine. And whoever played for Metallica when they were good...

I listened to a few of Metallica's newer songs on Youtube, St. Anger was just too horrible to play for more than 30 seconds, the rest pretty much sucked ass.

Yes. Although "Ride the Lightning" and everything between it and "Black" were still good. But after that... Well, anything left of the Real Metallica aside from their older albums is dead. I believe game informer had this to say about either Rock Band, or the new Guitar Hero having all of Metallica's songs: "We've been told they are going to be using highly superior technology to make all the Drum Solos from St. Anger sound like wet paper bags hitting marshmellows."

...Or something to that effect.
