While I agree that people should not infringe on the rights of others with their smoke. I still think this is a personal choice. If people want o smoke then it is their right to do so. Have smoking bars and diners and non smoking bars and diners.

But the smoking itself infringes on the rights of others. Those of us who want to breath clean air are restricted by smokers. Yes we can choose to go to bars, restaurants and the like that ban smoking, but what about the things that we have no choice on? I have to go to class everyday walking through smokers' remnants because they are allowed to smoke right outside the doors, and they always do. I sure don't like breathing in their smoke every day, but I find myself with no other choice, as going to class is a necessity in my life. Now I don't think that public money should be spent to make a room designated for smoking either, because this is reinforcing a HORRIBLE habit. Instead, smoking should not be allowed in any such public walking space OR someone needs to create a filter that is attached to each smokers mouth which forces them to be the only ones to breathe back in their exhaust. And a strict fine need then be imposed if a smoker is not using his filter properly.

If marijuana is illegal then tobacco sure as hell should be. Seeing as how it's physically addictive and far more lethal. But the bottom line is, if you smoke that in public eventually someone who doesn't smoke will smell it, and he shouldn't have to have cigarette smoke in his lungs just because you want to smoke it. Besides some of the second-hand smoke has been through one's lungs already. Would you drink beer that's been through someone's bladder? :D

Get a fucking life.

You guys bitch about the gooberment taking away our rights and then in the next breath yell for joy about them doing the same fucking thing. And i dont give a flying fuck if you don't think its the same thing IT IS !!

Bunch of fucking hipocritical snot nosed crybabys

Get real fools

1. Second hand smoke has NEVER been proven to be harmfull All the bullshit you have read is just that . BULLSHIT and if you took more then 10 seconds to read the fucking facts you no load pantywaists would realize that.

And in short.. Fuck off you tools

Edit.. Side not fuckheads.. You get more harmfull shit in your lungs breathing in the air arround a major city (Smog) then you ever would from second hand smoke. And yet we dont have hardly any laws on the books to prevent it and even less amount of people screaming about it.

Yes it has, there has been plenty of research done on second hand smoke and it has been proven to be even more harmful than inhaling it straight from the cigarrette. If we're talking about human rights here, what right do I have to stop you from smoking? None. But what right do you have to blow the remains of your smoke in my face? Even less! That's all that I want to see changed. If people want to smoke, make them control the remnants of it so it doesn't infringe on the lives of those of us who didn't have to do everything in high school to be accepted and were smart enough to not light up a little white stick and treat it's exhaust like oxygen.

I totally agreee with you on this. Smoking in certain places should never be banned. You're not going into a bar for your health, so why complain about someone smoking around you? Great post, Rev. Steph.

You get a fucking life. I don't give a flying fuck if second-hand smoke is harmful or not - I don't want to breathe that shit in. It makes me gag, smells like shit, and makes my eyes water. Just because your sorry ass is addicted to cigarettes doesn't mean I should have to breathe that shit in.

By the way, a lot of people are allergic to cigarettes. Even if second-hand smoke doesn't cause cancer, what if someone just happens to walk by and has asthma? Second-hand smoke can put people in the hospital.

Jack, they just released a study from the Surgeon General that says it is. While it is not the goverments job to tell you what you can put into your body, although they seem to think it is. I think that if we are banning substances for being addictive and dangerous to your health than alcohol and tobacco should be on that list. But personally I don't think they should ban these substances. If we spent the money we do on the "war on drugs" on rehabilitation programs, we could actually fix things. Buzz's suggestion of smoking and non-smoking resturants and bars makes the most sense. Then there wouldn't be that group of smokers right outside the door. Creating a room just to befoul it with cigarette smoke is silly, but outdoor smoking areas that are set off from entrances is a good idea. Up there in Minnisote you would have to really want that cigarette.

I don't think segregating smokers and non-smokers would be good for society. I think smoking should be like other vices, only to be done in one's own home. Drinking is another matter. I don't think it's a good idea to get drunk either way, but I think people who are drunk should not be in society pissing everyone else off. But a few drinks are fine since seeing someone drink doesn't bother anyone.

What harm would segragating smokers have? they are already ostrisized and it will probably only get worse, as restrictions tighten, and people get sick of paying the medical bills, of poor smokers. At least they would have a place of their own.

No, you people down there in Florida are just weak. I see people walking around in 60 degree weather down there wearing full winter coats and I laugh histerically! When it gets back above freezing here I'm walking around in a T-Shirt. Smoking is an adiction strong enough to bring anyone out in the cold to puff up. I know people who actually go out to smoke more durning winter because it "warms them up."

Honey, I lived in Mass most my life. You don't need to tell me about winter. And during the periods that I have smoked I have been forced outside many times. But I never minded it. Cigarette smoke smells like shit. And smokers who deny that are just lying through their teeth. Even when I was a smoker I didn't like having everthing smell like that.

Humphfff.. A new study.. Is it like the last one ?? that was PROVEN to have been doctored results ? PROVEN to have to factual basis at all ? And YET all these stupid anti smoking laws that were passed were based upon it..

Quite frankly people if you don't like to be arround a smoker nothing is stoping you from getting up and leaving.

Saying oh this person is allergic to it.. Bahh im sure there are people out there like that but give me a break .. They would have the commen sense to not get near someone who is smoking.. Or if they don't they should be dead .. Poluting up the gene pool with their bad gene's as it is..

To say that second hand smoke is as /or even more harmfull then first hand smoking is just plain stupid.

Meh.. you anti smokers have been brainwashed just like the religious nuts .. OMG eggs are bad for you DON;t eat them!! OMG OMG OMG !!! Carbohydrates are bad for you !! don't eat meat !! dont eat this dont eat that .. Its not healthy.. OMG OMG ..

Give it a reast .. YOU ARE GOING TO DIE .. And there is not a damn thing you can do about it. Its just a matter of how when and where.. And some guy walking down the street smoking a cigerett that JUST might get a little into your preciouse little lungs sure as fuck aint going to contribute to what kills you.

............ Fine ill make you a deal.. You take away smoking.. I say lets take away all forms of coffie.. Sense i feal that coffie is harmfull ... I don't like the smell.. Theres a chance someone walking down the street could spill some on me and burn me harming me..

So I CALL for a total bann on coffie

^ What i just said makes JUST AS MUCH SENSE as you tards who are yelling its a good thing to bann smoking..

FYI dicktards I DO NOT SMOKE myself. And yet i respect outhers right to do so without being hassled by selfrightious pricks.

Let me say it again. I don't give a flying fuck if it's dangerous or not. I just don't want to be breathing that shit in. I mean, if the gagging alone doesn't tell you the smoke is harmful, I guess there's little hope for it to be proven medically, at least to your dumbass's satisfaction.

So now you think that it is stupid to state facts? Just because you don't want to believe the facts does not make them any less true.

FYI dicktards I DO NOT SMOKE myself. And yet i respect outhers right to do so without being hassled by selfrightious pricks.

Yes, others do have the right to smoke. They don't have the right to blow their trash from it into the air that I am breathing. I have just as much right to breathe second-hand-smoke-free air as they do to suck those ashes into their own lungs. When they are blowing those ashes into the air it is infringing on my rights, and since we can't stop them from infringing on my rights without stopping the smoking, that is the only suitable recourse that there is.
