I wouldn't put so much effort into learning another language just so I can visit their country. I'd find some way to get by on a vacation without spending 6 weeks totally emersed in an English-Dumbfuckish dictionary just for a week long vacation. However, if these fucks are LIVING in our country, (legally or not) they ought to have learned English beforehand. So the fuck what if we don't exactly have an 'official' language, everyone knows what language the country operates on, and no one expects you to be fluent in any but one language if you live here.
Hell! It's recognized as the worldwide language anyways! If a person speaks two languages there's a damn good chance that ONE of them is English because America is such a huge power, ecconomically and governmentally. If you really want to live here then learn the fucking language. I wouldn't dare moving to another country before becoming fluent in their toungue.

It should also be noted, however, that America is the only English-speaking country that doesn't use Commonwealth English. Genreally I try and use Commonwealth spellings and pronunciations whenever possible, like "cheque", "licence", and so forth, because I think America has bastardized the real English language.
Who pronounces "missile" like "missal"? Only America. >_>

What? I've never used the word "missal", but just looked it up and found that it refers to a roman catholic book. A rather obscure reference. Also, I'm not familiar with this "Common Wealth' English, but it doesn't bother me any to use words with the other spellings of them. I think that it is only being used as a way for those who do use the 'Common Wealth' spelling of the language to snub Americans. Just look at its representation. Its reference to wealth makes it appear that money is the deciding factor of which is better.

I was referring to the pronunciation; Americans pronounce it "misil" where as I prefer to call it a "misail".

Actually, commonwealth is just the standard English language, used by the "Commonwealth of Nations", such as Britain, Australia, etc.

Most likely, "Commonwealth" is a reference to the fact that the United Kingdom used to be Socialist.

And there's nothing wrong with America having its own pronnciation/spelling of things. Every region ends up spelling and pronouncing words a bit differently. When the country of origin disputes this change, then the change loses credibility, simply because of geographic differences.

We call it pop because it sounds better than soda. I remember the first time I heard someone ask for a soda....I had NO idea what he wanted because we've ALWAYS called it pop! It's what I grew up hearing it called. Then you get someone from Texas walking in and asking for a coke. So you give him one and the bastard complains that he wanted 7-up! And you think that we're bad here in Minnesota....

"Hablamos solamente Ingles

"Los que no saben

The American government
should post that
in every establishment
instead of the damned
kowtowing...
"Se habla Espanol aqui."
That hello shithead posting
translates to:
"We only speak English
in this country."
"Those who cannot
speak English
may return
to the hellhole
from which they came from."
As for the Commonwealth language
which is the one true English there is...
oh, but what flavor of such fine cuisine.
Now compare that to the junk crap
of the English version blacks and latinos dish out
where every three words are interspersed with:
"ya know wat ahm sayin'?"
And to think that there is not a damn thing
they are saying at all, except all that gibberish
of being unable to express themselves in the least.
Now, as for this bullshitting Website...
now this is a different animal altogether.
I am really quite very surprised!
Never mind the lousy grammar
or that some of the fellows misspell
and whatever else... but the gist
of the conversation is there.

It's not a racial viewpoint. A person should be expected to speak the language of the country that they live in, regardless of if they're black, white, or miscellaneous. I agree with him, we shouldn't have even allowed them to enter the country until they can prove that they are able to communicate with its residents.

Good point. At the very least, their children will learn English because they'll have grown up in it. The best way to learn English is to participate in society.
However, nobody should be expected to be able to understand Farsi just because someone came into their store and can't speak English. It's the responsibility of the non-English speaker to find a way to communicate in such a way that the English speaker can understand.

Few immegrants really expect you to speak their language. Spanish is the most commonly spoken language int he world, if not buy now, then soon. Truth is we would all benifit by habloing a piquito espanol. I haved lived in Arizona and now live in Florida and illegals are a common fixture. If you want to be mad at them, I can give you a list of great reasons, but that they speak their native language is a stupid reason. If if frustrates your to put up with it for 5 minutes, imagine living that way. Still, anyone here illegally sould be deported. I for one don't want to pay for people who think so lowly of our laws.

That sounds pretty bad, but I mean actually living WITH them. My first year with my house I rented out one of the rooms to a Mexican, so I lived in the same small house with him for almost a year. He never cared to help out around the house or respect any rules that didn't make his life easier, plus he found every way to dodge paying rent and things disapeared from the house or 'MYSTERIOUSLY' broke constantly. Being my first time doing this stuff, I had no idea where I needed to draw the line and didn't finally boot him out until about ten months into the year long contract. By then he still owed me over two grand, and I've done everything that I can to get my money from him, but it seems like the law is taking his side now that he's working two jobs, in some addict program and has his first little bastard child well on the way.

Ouch. You need a good book on Landlord Tenant law, check the refrence section of your public library. They make a couple of good ones. A good written lease makes it easier to get them out, have a clause that lets you automatically terminate. And since it's shared space, you can use the system too , two words- restraining order.
Brains_Behind_Operation
06-16-2006, 11:29 PM
That wasn't the problem, I had the termination clause in there the whole time. I just didn't know when enough was enough. He kept on promising that the money was right around the corner, and I have this flaw in my brain which causes me to naturally trust everyone. It was just a matter of how long I was going to let my trusting nature stay in the way of my gut intuition. A restraining order would do me no good where I'm at right now.
Paisleyspeaker
06-17-2006, 05:19 PM
It is really hard when you want to believe people. You might be able to help yourself there buy not giving yourself the choice, could you put into the lease that it is automatically if X# of months rent are missed consecutivly or a debt of a certain amount is inccured? And how did you end up with this responsibility?
Brains_Behind_Operation
06-19-2006, 12:22 AM
I think that I'd rather deal with it on a case by case basis. One reason that I let him stay for so long was that I didn't need the money yet, it was accruing interest while he didn't pay, and every month more money was owed. If I had kicked him out I would have had to find someone to take his place, and I wasn't sure if that would work. I saw it as just extra money that would be mine eventually, but I was too naive to realize that I was never going to be able to collect because he never intended to pay, and the law seems to always be on the side of those who are breaking it.
I gave this responsibility to myself. I purchased a house close to campus and started renting out rooms as a source of income. I had money that would earn interest in the house plus renting it paid for current bills coming to the house, and my college needs. It just seems that luck appears to be on my side less often than it is on my side. Luck favors the foolish, and I'm no fool.

He has a point. Here we are bitching about Mexicans coming here and expecting us to speak their language, but at the same time we Americans are one of the worst as far as speaking other languages. You go to Europe and almost everyone there speaks English in addition to their native language. Most Americans quickly forget the year of whatever random language they took in high school by the time they're in college.
In fact when I went to Italy with my mom, everywhere we went, they all spoke English, and we didn't even walk into places and expect them to understand us. One time we just walked into a place and before we even said anything the cashier asked if we speak English. My mom would try and speak Italian but a lot of the time she'd just end up saying English words with a fake accent and adding a vowel at the end. :D

Exactly why we don't need to learn a different language. Not saying that we shouldn't. But learning a different language in order to visit another country is a waste of time since most people speak English anyways. If I lived in a country that had a different primary language I would have made certain to learn it before moving there. EVERYONE would 'immediately' start speaking their own language if it were an option, there's nothing wrong with that. But if you can't speak the primary language of the country then you have no right to burden everyone you come in contact with by living there.

If that's the case I think that the country has every right to kick them out. No reason to force others to speak a language that isn't native to the country they live in, it just creates more problems. We have a large issue with that sort of thing here though just because America is such a great place to live that also supports and encourages people getting away with that shit all the time.

I do! I think most other countries are pretty good at speaking English to be honest, especially the european countries you mentioned. Not too sure about Mexico as I've never been. It's because other nationalities are so good at speaking English, that English speaking countries have such a low percentage of nationals who can speak more than one language. I for one know that I never concentrated very much in French at school, because I didn't see that point of it as most French people speak reasonable English. Maybe they decide not to serve you because you are a boorish, ignorant, racist and opinionated American? It's a shame they allow people like you to travel, because you give a very bad impression of your country. Unfortunate, as most of the Americans I have met are polite, intellegent and openmided individuals.
