Galileo concluded the world would end after 2060, and Nostrodamus was a self-proclaimed wiseman that had no credit until way after he died. All of his 'foretellings' were so fucking ambiguous that they could be interperated as anything. Lets also not forget that history repeats itself. I can describe Rome and give you America's future.
"The great power of the world will fall, tearing itself apart from the inside out." Add shit about morals and what not and BOOM! prophecy.

We won't destroy ourselves. We've proven ourselves responsible enough to handle world devastating technology and not abuse it. What do you think stopped the Cold War from turning into WWIII? Obviously, each side was just as afraid of the others' nuclear technology.
Unfortunately, nuclear technology means that the existing world powers will do anything to stop a war, including form a one-world order, teaming up to crush and dominate third world countries like Iraq. I don't think this will happen for some time though. Oh, wait...

One-world order? Puh-lease. The only things even remotely resembling something like that would be the UN or the EU, and I think we both know their feelings on Iraq.
Anyone else think we need a middle-finger emoticon?

It was never supposed to mean the "end of the world" in the literal sense, though that's the way it has been interpreted. It's basically supposed to be a transformation of the way conscience energy and matter work together. And it's basically bullshit.

No you see, we have the UN, the EU, and soon the American Union, The African Union, and we have the world divided into groups of countries. After a while its only a matter of time before someone says, 'hey, lets unite all of these groups!' Then it will all look like this:
Antichrist
/\
unions unions
/\ /\
smaller countries smaller countries
Based on previous knowledge of mankind's thinking about grouping things, like the UN and EU, it seems very reasonable.

My point wasn't that it isn't possible. My point was that we aren't anywhere near it yet, and the only things that are don't want any part in our involvement in Iraq, like Gen suggested.

Have you seen The Fog of War? It is in my personal opinion one of the best documentaries ever made.
For one thing, the Cuba Crisis, were this close *holding fingers very close to eachother* to destroy our civilization. Out of luck they managed to avoid a full scale nuclear war.

Really, all that would be needed for a new world order is for the super powers to team up. All their military force would be plenty for world domination.

You can have a huge military that can take over the world, but you would have to get the troops to go along with your diabolical plans. So, unless you have a giant army full of complete fools, I don't think that is going to happen.
When the world becomes one, it will be taken over by a few people. All the U.S. government has to do is block "I love New York" from being televised for a couple episodes, and the people of the U.S. will fall to it's knees begging for Mercy, willing to relinquish every single right...just give us back our TV!

"yeah, i can see the us, china, england, and russia getting together....lmfaooooo "
which is why it hasn't happened, and likely never will happen.

Hitler got all the troops to go along with his diabolical plans. Know how he did it? He lied about how diabolical they were. In fact almost every other revolution that turned into a fascist dictatorship started with most of its leaders having good intentions.

getting back to the mayan calendar... it had to end sometime, they couldn't have just kept adding more years to the calendar for all eternity, could they?
