Fear not Grasshopper. The Mexicans have been migrant farm workers sinse the 50's. The ones that work the farms are here on a visa.( green card ). The big farms today are industralised, meaning thesr farns grow exclusively for food processors.I e; Heins, Delmonte, Green giant, etc. These corporations are in sight of our politicians, and always have been. Because they want the crops harvested on time. These people always come back to a shure thing. ( The Mexicans ). The money they make isn't that much by our standards, but to those people, they can go home, and live comfortably. The prices are going to go up regardless. Corporations can claim tremindous losses due to lack of farm ground. (I've seen farms turned into housing development projects ), the food processing company needs a new piece of equipment, the cost of getting rid of spent cleaning solvents, (E.P.A. regulations ), the cost of getting rid of waste, that all companies have to endure, ( no land fills left), trucking companies charging, "fuel surcharges", due to the rising cost of diesel fuel, the corporations are charged a detention for delay time. Every one from suppliers, to the tax man has their hands out, wanting more,and more. So, we the costomers, have to put up with the rising cost. Or, put in your own garden.

Is this about these recent, nationwide immigration protests? I completely agree that our modern society would have a difficult time existing if it wasn't for the sweat of unskilled labor, but I'm also willing to pay an extra ten cents for my can of Green Giant corn nibblets if it's harvested completely by legal workers.

Why the agri business is so different? They should be out of business like those in the other industries and those illegals will stay in their own country growing food for us to import. We will still have cheap products but without all the problems and social burdens the illegal trespassers have caused.

As a legal immigrant myself, I can't stand those protesters trying to grab this country by the throat and force us to take them. Who cares about their paying taxes? I have been in this country 30 years. I had to submit a health record and policy report when applied to come here. The health report had to include a x-ray film of my lung and others to make sure that I had no TB or other contageious diseases. The policy report had to include all kinds of records to make sure that I had not committed any crime.

We respected the host country's right to thoroughly check us out in order to accept us, and most people of other countries still believe in it. Where is our country's right now? As to workers for the fields.. Current law allows for them. That is not the issue NEVER has been the issue.
