House Resolution 888:

The First Amendment of the US Constitution:

The 'Lemon Test':

I've just copied and pasted this from the email he sent.

Now, I don't exactly get what this is about, teaching children that America is founded on Christian values? That might be it, but he said the idea didn't pass the Lemon Test.

Can anyone confirm or refute that America is founded on Christianity? My guess would be no, if it was I don't think we would have this thing in the first amendment who says Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof.

Personally, I don't care, I am The Spectacular Secularist, The Amazing Atheist and I don't care if my country isn't, I'll be as secular as I want to anyway.

Actually, the following is from the treaty of tripoli:

"the government of the United States is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion."

So there you have it.

America is founded on liberty, meaning that even if the founding fathers were all Christian, which they weren't, it would be against the principles of the nation to allow religion any place in governmental decisions.

Religion and liberty tend to be at odds with each other. I've heard Catholics say that slavery is acceptable because "it reminds us that we're all slaves to God". Why they continue to worship their enslaver is unknown.
