:D Hey everyone, check this out. I have had some time off from work and have been going to the beach near where I live to watch some awesome sunsets. In the last few days I have been watching the sun go down over the ocean with my binoculars (you can do so as the sun reaches the horizon without blowing out your eyes in the last few minutes before it sets) and I have been watching a large sunspot everyday now for a week. Totally awesome!!

If you are in an area where you can watch the sun right at the horizon, take the time to go see it. About 5 to 8 minutes before the sun goes down look at it with a pair of binoculars.

Look at and area just below center and just a little to the left. When I first saw it I thought it was a cloud blocking the sun a little bit, but the spot moved with the sun and has been there for the whole week. Check it out, its definitely worth a look!

Check it out while wearing a welding mask, before the sun sets.

You can, I have used a welder's mask to view the sun, but if you observe the sun about 10 minutes before it goes down it's safe with binoculars. At that point, it's a big orange ball. It's the same as photographing a sunset.

Did you see the sun spot? Looks awesome! :D

Hey everyone! Check this out! Get some binoculars and stare at the sun! Don't mind that searing burning sensation - it's just your retinas!

I love it, Freakazoid - it's like one of those horrible educational videos. "Timmy Stares At the Sun" Did his friends tell him to do it? Would you do it? Look, Timmy gets to go to the optometrist again! Everyone loves his eye patch! Sally got to sign it! Aww - she drew a heart.

Are you trying to make us all go blind?

Are you trying to make us all go blind?

No, just those of us who are dumb enough to try it without properly considering their eyesight ahead of time. You know, just the idiots among us. So yea, he is trying to make us all go blind.

Wow. Sunspots. Amazing. I'd rather stare at a welding flame.

OK, really now, why all the nonsense? :D How many of you people really believe that watching a sunset a few moments before the sun goes down will damage your eyes or blind you? Ahhhhh, lets see, I would estimate that about one billion people see the sun go down by watching a sunset every 24 hours. Let me check the news and see if they were all blinded. Hold on, looking...

...back, nope, no one reported going blind today by watching a sunset a few minutes before it went down. Hmmmmm, must be safe. Enjoy!
