You don't really hear anything about Sweden, good or bad around here. My Grandfather was Norwegian, and I think he might have said once or twice how much better Norway is than Sweden, but that's the extent to what I've heard. They don't really appear to be any sort of world wide power trying to push their weight around, but on the flip side I've never heard that Sweden is just a bunch of pussies or anything either, (like the whole neutral Switzerland thing, or France nowadays). Sweden's just nothing more than a country up there on the Scandinavian Peninsula.

Well that's nice!
My idea of starting a "post" here was because it seemed, at first, to be alot of Americans around here... And every time I've paid a visit in the US. (about thirteen times) people have told/asked me things like "Every girl in sweden are tall, blond and got very big breasts like Viktoria Silverstedt right?" or "Do you have polarbears/pingwins where you come from?". But most about how beautiful people must be/are in Sweden... Maybe they where just flirting with me... I am kind of slow sometimes :P
Well, that kind of stuff...

Prejudice? Against Swedes? What? I have never, ever, heard someone say "Look at all 'dem goddamned Swedes - They're ruining this country! Hey, Swedish boy, go suck a reindeer!" Have you?
Sweden is just about the most neutral, quiet, who-gives-a-damn of a country there is. They have a lot of good looking chics there, too, don't they?

Yea, that's about the extent of it. The only Swedes we've heard of around here are Playboy models. Not to mention, they probably were flirting with you. If you ever hear a compliment from a guy that you don't know you can be certain that that's exactly the case. The polar bear/penguin types of questions just show how ignorant we Americans really are of Sweden. All we can think of for conversation is bringing up some type of animal that has climactic relation, in your case an arctic relation because of how far North Sweden is.
Maybe you can change our view of the Swedes and do something GRAND to start giving us an idea of how to stereotype you people!

Silvery moon:
Haha, the Netherlands, yes, I do actually, Alot of beerdrinking kiddos' getting high most of the time? :P Naw, thats not so nice, uhm... Well I met a bunch of people from the Netherlands years ago down in Italy, they where very social and kind, a bit "laydback"(spelling? :P), they are mostly happy and laughing, correct?
Brains behind operations:
Oh, thats a good one, to me, a certain stereotype is really hard to come up with... Maybe that Swedish chicks are very well dressed, ambitious, interesting, sometimes really mean (nasty habit:P), protective... Swedish guys are often tall, envious, reserved, most are very good-looking...
Well, it's true we have alot of playboy models! And not just for playboy, we have Moore-, MAN-, Slitz-, Cafémodels (different magazines for men) ... Maybe thats because we want attention and can't get it from our reserved boys? :P
Zzyzx:
Sure, but thats because most girls in Sweden are fastidious, very interested in fashion and VERY vane!! :)
Remember, this is how I see it, and I live in a rather wealthy suburb to one of the biggest cities...

Well you sure know everything about America.... You know we also think those Swiss are spending most of their day making watches and pocket knives while hiding under a rock every time they hear the word war. Seriously, it's one thing to have stereotypes, everyone does regardless of where they're from. But now your complaining about us having stereotypes WITH a stereotype of a stereotype! Talk about hypocritical!

And of course you have stereotypes, just as we do...honestly, who doesn't? But that was not my point. my point was and still is that some people (please note: I didn't say all, I didn't say you nor any of the readers here) simply don't know (or don't care about) the difference between sweden and switzerland. that's all...gotta go, have to milk my cow.

Have you ever heard of the Scandinavian Peninsula? Scandinavia is not a country, it's a general loacation. Look at a world map. You'll see a large peninsula that contains Finland, Norway and Sweden. This is known as the Scandinavian Peninsula, the origin of the Vikings, true first Europeans to discover the continent known as North America.

But the person who claims to be one of the smartest here seems to have some small problems with his english.

That's hillarious!

Sweden has a lot of beautifull women, we are known for it all over the world it seems.
I must agree though, our country doesn't do much in the war against terrorism or anything else.
All we do in war is to send money and help for the people who needs it.
Our country is very neutral.
If you ever heard of an old music group called ABBA you might know they are from Sweden.
The cars Volvo and Saab is from Sweden
Also, if you ever come to sweden you might want to try out our special food called "surströmming" wich is a kind of fish... You will love it ;)

It would appear that Sweden has maintained their neutrality for a long time.

Is it based on your $25.00 membership card to "Mensa" that comes with a 10% discount at Wal-Mart? OK, so you filled out the back coupon from your cereal box, put a check for 25 bones in a cute little envelope, sent it off and now you have an "official I.D. card," a "secret password and code book" and an official "power ring" with the hidden compartment from "Mensa." I do get your point, but I have not announced anything. People ask me questions and I answer.
If I said; Where do you work and how many women do you sleep with every week? Then you answer my questions, are you bragging?
What if I then said: Because you sleep with so many girls you are an ass for treating women like objects. Then you defended yourself and your position. Are you bragging?
What is worse is when someone steps into that conversation and says you are bragging when they don’t know the whole story. This is what you have done.

So, put all together, Mensa is a Stupid Catering Refectory for Jerks. In other words, a college dining hall where stupid jerks go to learn how to cater! What a perfect image for people who dilude themselves into thinking that they are smarter than 98% of the population.

So recently I mailed 3 Megasoma elephas elephas and 1 Goliath orientalis to two separate people in Norway.
Are there a lot of insect collectors in Norway? Have you ever seen people displaying insects in their home?

Nothing. That's the joke. :D
Maybe you'd have to be in an English speaking country to hear the stock "an X, a Y, and a Z walk into a bar" joke.
