It acted like a total server failure.
I was on at the time it crashed a few month back.
The site became sluggish, then froze, then went dark.

Two months is a damn long time! I missed the Bullshit!

I'm just happy there was a backup so things can get back to normal, whatever that is.

Hello Hitek - It has been a long time. I have been busy running all over Georgia. I now work for the DOE as a Science Implementation Specialist pulling about 60-70 hours per week. Therefore; less time to bullshit around :D

Hey Buzz. What is a "science implementation specialist"? Sounds like a fun job, unless it's a science teacher. Being a school teacher would be a stretch for me personally.

Teaching does have its challenges. I taught Biology, Chemistry & Environmental Science for 10 years. I took this position and basically; I go to different schools and I help the science teachers be better at what they are doing. Mostly I help them "do" labs and encourage the use of practices that have been proven to be successful. I like it because I get to work on labs (my favorite thing to do) its difficult because I travel about 3,000 miles a month and I have to stay in hotels quite often which that takes me away from my family. But the job is VERY rewarding ... anyway I do go on....:D

You're gay; how could you know anything about biology? LOL :D Sorry, I couldn't resist that one, you walked right into it, beelzegay.

You know it's funny. My Dad was a chemist, and he used to take me to the lab and show me all the cool things you could do, making stuff turn super cold, hot, burn, blow up and stuff. Obviously I didn't take after the old man because I could never get lab experiments to come out right and I always had to cook the results. :D

Traveling can be hard and it doesn't get any easier as you get older. I've heard there is an extreme shortage of teachers and school administrators, so you should be able to pick a plum job once you build up seniority and experience.

That sounds great. I bet you learned a lot of science before you even set foot into a High School science class. I intend to teach my kids as much as I can about science and math before they hit middle school. It’s hard for me to work with kiddies before age 10.

You are right there is a shortage of teachers. Many of the teachers I mentor are "TAPP (http://www.gapsc.com/EducatorPreparation/GaTapp/home.asp)" and require a lot of assistance because they may not have degrees in science and they dont have any professional teaching training (other than the program). The reason these programs exist is because, like you said, there is a shortage of trained teachers.
I don't think I will go back into the classroom until I retire. Then I will pick a sweet, part-time AP Biology & Chemistry position somewhere. I think my next step is to (like you said) "build up seniority" at this state level and then step down to run science education for a local school system for a few years. I don't think I would ever want to be a principal but you never know.

Where I am from (British Columbia), teachers get a 4 year bachelors degree in whatever field they are interested in, then complete 1 year of graduate work to get a teaching certificate. They phased out the B. Ed a long time ago. The pay is good so they can be picky and get people with a degree in the field to teach a subject. Teachers make up to $80K, and of course, get two months holiday/year and then get a killer pension. The main problem up there is breaking in to the profession since so many people wanna do it. Many people have to spend some time in the sticks to build up seniority or do a lot of sub-ing at first.

Well you should be happy that your work is recession proof. My business is off quite a bit with the recession. Lots more time to bullshit these days!

In the USA there are teaching degrees with content emphasis and there are certification programs where anyone can get the license to teach. Pay for teachers here depends on where you work. In the DC area (where I mainly taught) you can make as high as 120K In Arizona you can make as low as 25K (and thats public schools, private schools go much lower).

My friend, nothing is recession proof. My current position could very well be in jeopardy if the economy plumits even further. The legislature of Georgia decides whether to fund us or not. They have already approved another year so I am safe till next year. I hope to get another year an a half out of the state but one never knows, I may end up the King Bullshitter if all goes south.

I believe they probably set up some new protection against spam bots.
Those birthday spam bots were gone after this.

If that's the case it doesn't seem to be working.
