AL needed something to do, so is around telling everybody (when is not playing with his puppet Obama) about global warming. I have every winter to shovel about (an average of 5 feet of snow) here in Pennsylvania, I havent see any "warming" in my area, the planet is home for millions of living things and is a very active system. this makes the planet to have changes in temperature, that's all

Yes, Global Warming, as it is being promoted, is a complete joke, the whole idea that puny little man, can have any effect on Earth's biosphere is so patently absurd. It may be getting warmer, but ONE volcano can spew out 20 years of exhaust in one month, consider this: every single dirt clod on this planet is a by product of volcanic activity, all the mountains, also all the valleys, to the bottom of the sea, every bit of it was formed from boiling liquid rock, coming from inside the liquid core. If the greenhouse effect could destroy life on Earth, I think it would have done it by now... in fact, I'm sure it has many times. This planet has been hit from space by burning rock, too.
Consider the lowest point on the Earth's surface, The Dead Sea. It didn't get there by water running downhill. Something had to smack it down from above. I'm sure mankind will never come close to the carbon based fuel exhaust put out by that blast, and that's only one of many. But, it gets worse. Not only is every speck of rock and dirt the product of complete meltdown, all the air comes from the same place. So how did all this rock get here anyway? Debris from the REAL nuclear world... STARS. Every molecule of every speck of molten rock on Earth is the direct byproduct of interstellar nuclear fusion, the likes of which we can't even imagine. Take the biggest H-bomb ever imagined, then multiply that times a number higher than any number we've ever conceived of, and that's how much every molecule on this planet has been subjected to. THAT'S HOW IT GOT HERE. That's where "here" came from. Not just "here"... ALL "HERE'S" EVERYWHERE.
So, if all this unimaginable nuclear activity on a vast scale produced this planet, AND LIFE ITSELF, then how could the pitiful activities of mankind put any dent in it at all? The only danger we face is from our own stupidity, our obsession to be totally full of corny-ass BULLSHIT, spoon fed to us by a box with light and sound coming out, we look to the box to tell us what to think, since its way too hard to just look around and use common sense.
Jade was right, most "science" is just a scam to keep us enslaved in our brains, a crude, half-assed attempt to keep us from thinking our own thoughts, going from point A, to point B, and all the way to Z. Most of the available energy is going to waste anyway, in the form of raw sunlight, the Earth's magnetic field, and wack-ass politicians, lying into microphones all day long. Look how much lightening there is all over the world every day.
Only a liberal nazi like Al Gore would think mankind's rinky dinky power systems can even begin to influence a system as large and rugged as a planet...
Absurd delusions of grandeur, just a miniscule puff of hot air, Leave that kind of idiocy to religion, where it belongs. The government should concern itself with MONEY, not totalitarian tree-hugger policies from the insane asylum. If science needs a good project, why not figure out what that big yellow sun is up to? It seems to be rather warm, globally speaking. The Earth is a tiny speck compared to one solar flare of one sunspot, which is a burst of liquid fire, 100's of 1000's of miles high, spewed by gravitational flux and the sun's internal magnetism rubbing ultra-violent nuclear elbows...

oh my
I would list the many links I found to scientific sites that would explain the basis for the concern; but I don't think you would be convinced. Doesn't look like you want to be.
I ask that you look past the Al Gore movie. There is much more out there, where the authors don't talk about themselves so much. Please don't let yourselves be led astray by politics, look at the science.
And on that note, Freaky you have a point, volcano's have a huge effect. And that effect is recorded in the ice cores that have been collected from the poles. They can measure the CO2 release from volcanoes for hundreds of thousands of years. But they also measure the increases from the industrustrial revolution forward. And we are not talking about one man or even a hundred. There are billions of us here now and we increase that number constantly, it is a cumulative effect, and one you are smart enough to see. ;)
Now I am not going to get into what the focus of government should be, our politics are far too different for that to be a productive discussion, we will have to agree to disagree. But we can both have what we want in this situation. If we as a nation were to take the lead in alternative fuel technologies it coud boost our flagging econpmy. There is a finite amount of oil ( however much that is, it won't last forever) and the whole world will need other solutions, we could make a pretty penny providing them. Assuming we don't outsource the manufacturing to China.

There is a change in climate happening, but it is not a bad thing. Ending the ice age early is, indeed, a good thing. Past periods of global warming were caused by volcanoes, and the planet adapted.
That said, I'm definitely cashing in on the green craze.

General, I would argue that it is a bad thing. When you play it out, there are thousands of people who will either die or be displaced by the floods that will result from melt off and changes in rain fall patterns (including bigger storms). I don't think there will be more hurricanes, but those that form will be larger, because they grow larger over warmer water. (Trust me I used to live in the Florida Pan handle, I know) There will also be many who starve from the droughts that result from those same changes in rainfall patterns. This will create hundreds of thousands of environmental refugees, leading to political strife.
Now I know we are overpopulated and as heinous as these things are, our numbers need a correction, but I would advocate a planned response instead of just waiting until nature does it for us.

I am not sure you understood what I am saying. I know something is happening, and I believe it is the fault of the industrialized human nations, especially the over-consumers in the United States.
Personally I am doing something, I intentionally live without a car, use public transportation, buy everything I can used to keep stuff out of the landfills. I use reusable shopping bags, compact floresent bulbs, recycle and unplug my electronics instead of just turning them off ( a TV will continue to draw 50% of the electricity it uses even when off)
I have an idea of what is to come.
But I also know that I will not convice my fellow Bullshitter's of anything by attacking them. I was trying to find places where we can agree to begin a dialouge that might expand their understanding.

I agree with the Freakmeister and others here.
Global warming is a great way for Al to make some hay now that his growing season is over.
Humans are changing global climate?
Yea, right.
Get real. What we do to this planet is so insignficant, it's comical to believe that people with intellect ACTUALLY BELIEVE we're changing the climate. Might as well be more worried that all the buildings in New York, and Los Angeles are going to cause the North American Continental Plate to "CRACK" unless we "EVEN the LOAD" by putting up more buildings in Kansas! Just about the same logic prevails to me. Nonsensical as it may be. Although, I should not make jest. That may be Internet Al's next battle cry! :D
Amazing this global warming frenzy has caught so much fire and has continued to blaze. Will it burn itself out? It's become a religion to some!
The fact that people are actually busying themselves by calculating their "Carbon Footprint"????? Are you freaking kidding me? Too much time on their hands!
When will the hype and myth go away? That's the only concern I have! ;)

I am sure there will be thousands or even millions dead if everything the GW people are saying is true (or even half of it, because to be fair you can't believe anyone because half the time people come up with their own bullshit hypotheses), but I sure won't be one of them. It's natural selection. You can't beat it. You can't beat it through welfare, and you can't beat it by weakening society with all the "metrosexual" culture and phagadocious underwear models. There will always be challenges present to test our species and decide whose genes will live on. I'm not saying I would parade the death of millions, but we'll all be dead in 100 years anyway.

I certainly appreciate your concern for the environment. It is our duty to take care of our only home in the universe.
That said, I question how effective many of your methods are. For instance, keeping trash out of landfills is no help. A relatively tiny area of land could be used as a trash receptacle for the entire country for a very long time. And by the time we'd filled the next, the first one would be decomposed and ready to use again.
Reusable shopping bags? Great. Few things are more unsightly than a plastic bag blown out of someone's trash can and onto the street. But compact florescent bulbs? Just don't break them, and be careful how you dispose of them. Florescent bulbs contain mercury, which is extremely poisonous and extremely expensive to have cleaned up if you break a bulb.
The one thing that it is actually beneficial to recycle is aluminum. That is the one material that it is more efficient to recycle than to mine bauxite and make new. Materials made from recycled plastic are usually marketing gimmicks used to appeal to the hippies.

General,
I know that many of the things that I do have only a small effect, but I believe that spread over many they can have a cumaulative effect. (On a selfish note I benefit from lower electric bills, and not having to worry as much as others about the rising price of gas)
I have noticed that many of the GW detractors on this site have two things in common: a strong dislike of Al Gore, and a beleif that we humans are somehow too small to change the climate. I believe that while singularly that may be true, but there are billions of us and our actions add up; for good as well as for bad.

I'm not even saying they have a cumulative effect, I'm saying some of them have no effect. Recycling plastic and paper, for instance. They grow trees specifically for the purpose of making paper, and in fact our forests have actually increased on average since the industrial revolution.
When I was a kid, my teachers made me read a book about a boy who woke up in the limb of a tree being cut down for use as toothpicks. That book was so much bullshit that I did not even fall for it when I was six.
I'm not so much of a GW detractor myself as I do believe there is a climate change happening. I just disagree with the liberals using it as part of their agenda against corporations and capitalism. Not to mention that our country's carbon emissions are actually less than that of Europe, where extreme socialist measures as well as a cap and trade system are in effect.
Certainly saving money on electricity and gas are noble. As a general rule, what's best for the environment is also what's best for your wallet. Wasting taxes on expensive recycling programs is good for neither.

Monthly average temperatures there range from a high of 86.2 degrees to a low of 18.0 degrees.
add 17 degrees to both and you get...

If only it were that simple. You have to take into account things like the effects of urbanization when you try to see if the temperatures are really rising.
Also, do you know anything about statistics? What is the standard deviation for the average yearly temperature? A change of 1.7 degrees may not be statistically significant.
Besides, weather and climate have always been changing, so it is not enough to say things are getting warmer, if that is your claim. You have to prove how man-made CO2 is the cause of it. That's where the difficulty lies.

Hey guys, long time no post. I've been outrageously preoccupied with school and my girlfriend lately (not so much school since summer started, but whatever). Anyway, I just thought I'd drop in and see what was up.
I gave a presentation about why global warming is bullshit and Al Gore should be shredded and fed to the dogs in my Geology class this past semester. Quite frankly, it was boner-inducing, if I do say so myself. The awesome thing is that my teacher liked it and pretty much agreed with everything I said.
Here's the site I frequented while working on it:
http://junkscience.com/Greenhouse/index.html
He has a bunch of GW pages up, including one about why global warming wouldn't be a bad thing:
http://junkscience.com/Greenhouse/Greenhouse_not_a_problem.html
Anyway, I'm off. I might swoop back in for a little while later today, but I'm leaving on vacation on Friday (preemptive Happy 4th to you all), so I probably still won't be posting for the rest of the summer. Hope you guys haven't been too lonely without me (especially you, Gen. ;)).

My experience is that geologists are the most skeptical of global warming of any group within science. This is because they can see dramatic climate swings in the geologic record (palm trees in Greenland, etc.). They more than anyone can see the natural variability of climate over the history of the earth.
