View Full Version : Digital averaging?

I read an article in a Discover magazine a few years ago about beauty. In fact it was the cover article. So there was a picture of this girl, and she was extremely beautiful. Turns out she wasn't real. The face was actually a composite of images of thousands of women's faces, digitally averaged together to form a sort of composite. So since reading the article I just went on with life, eventually to the point where I came up with my novel, which at the time was a movie. Now, my characters are going to need faces because I want my book to be illustrated. Not every other page, but a few pictures here and there. Now, I want the main female character to have a very beautiful face. After all, she was created for the main character (John Septem) and he's basically myself.

So I decided that when the time comes to give Kenzie a face I wanted it to be a composite of thousands of the most beautiful girls I can find, mostly Asian. What I want to know is, who knows anything about it? Does anyone know how they do it? Is it something I might be able to do on my own PC if I had the right software?

I don't have any idea how to do it, I've not heard of it until now. However, you will need to obtain the rights to use the photos from each of your thousands of women if this is what you really plan to do. Probably more cost and worry than the final outcome would actually be worth to you. If you don't get permission from each and every one of them, then you are liable for copyright infringement.

That's obvious. >_>

Forget my reason, I just want to know how they do it.
