Here's a suggestion for some of the idiots out there, if you have nothing to say just don't say anything! It's really been annoying me when people throw in posts that aren't passing any real message across or are saying something about a topic that isn't even closely related to the debate in the thread of the post. FYI - when someone asks a question to the general public and you step in and say "sorry, I don't know" that's just as bad as any. If you don't know we don't need you to tell us that!

Your going to have to get over it. If you can't, then do this; Drink to the point that when you lay in your bed, the ceiling spins. And then, you'll engage your foot brake,( by placing your foot on the floor), to keep the ceiling from spinning, only to realise, IT DOSEN'T WORK! So now you have to judge time and distance, in order to make it (sucsessfully), to the commode.............

Why? Who is a bit of sarcasm going to hurt? Why is the idea of people being sexually interested in children, (if they only are interested and don't act on their interests), so taboo? We accept that some people are sexually interested in those of the same sex, AND that they act on those interests. How could the former example be so much more repulsive? Every "innocent" thought desensatizes you to the next. You don't have to have sex with a child to do harm to them. Some porn addicts might tell you fornication is wrong. Some might tell you lesbian sex is wrong. Some might tell you porn is wrong. Some might tell you all three. And all three of these basically cover it, and in fact overlap, and there are others as well. Just because they watch porn doesn't discredit their assertions that watching porn is bad, because in their position, they have no choice but to watch it.

I wasn't even talking about people who watch porn out of full consent. In that case they'd be hypocrites.

Arousal is one of those involuntary things. It's hypocritical if they willfully indulge in that.

Porn addiction can happen. In fact I'd guess it's very likely - most people just don't notice because they've never tried to quit.

You are giving qualities to the topic of sex and unifying all of smoking. Sex has many different aspects as do cigarette.
There are different types of smoking:
Cigarette, Cigar, Pipe, Light, 100's, Menthol and on and on.

You should refine your example to say something like "Pipe Smokers who say that cigarette smokers are bad."

My example: Cigarette smokers who say smoking cigarettes is bad. They know it's bad, probably more than a non-smoker, yet they don't have a choice. My point is that it would be wrong to dismiss their assertions as hypocritical simply because they smoke cigarettes themselves.

I really disagree. Anyone can refrain from doing something that they want to, but know is wrong. It just takes some self control. My mother was an avid smoker until she became pregnant with myself and my brother. Immediately when she realized she was pregnant, she quit smoking and has never smoked since. She still to this day tells me that she has had dreams of smoking, and that she feels a craving for a cigarrette every once in a while. She has had many, MANY opportunities to act as well. One example is when she goes to her bridge club, there are women who smoke while playing the game and offer her a cigarrette as well. She has yet to take them up on the offer.

A person's preferences cannot be inherently evil because a person has no control over their preferences. It can only be a problem if they take action on their preferences, and this is something that does not happen if a person knows that it is wrong and avoids it. It is no more wrong to be sexually attracted to children than it is to be sexually attracted to people of the same gender or to want to take your clothes off in the middle of school and run up and down the hallways.
