Casino Royale for the new guy was actually good I like him better than Peirce Brosnan.

Thanks MM. I'd love to get E.E.'s take on Bond as an Englishman. Wonder if Bond does as well or well at all in G.B. ?

Casino Royale is on Showtime today at 5:30 easter. I'll check it out.

I actually liked Timothy Dalton as Bond. I read all of Ian Flemming's books, and to me, Bond was always a "dark" character, tainted by losing his wife, lots of close calls with death, and many other issues that made him a fierce bad-ass.
Dalton played the role well. Especially after Roger Moore and his smirking, whimsical play on Bond. Did not care for that.

Well Bond is more of an American thing but he is probably popular there too. Also thats why I like the new one cause he pulls that off I liked Sean Connery best as Bond but now i'm teetering between Connery and the new one. Also Connery was my favorite cause of his classiness and his ability to kick ass and look awesome doing it.

I don't know if I can compare Craig and Dalton. They both had a different take on Bond but both got his core character right. Connery was also great, but a little more lighthearted (which is understandable because all but one of his movies were before OHMSS).

I did not mind Moore's character too much. He wasn't really Bond to me, though. Just a suave English chap with a rabbit's foot in his pocket.

I never really got too much into Brosnan. His character seemed rather stiff to me. He did have a dark element to him though, and that was a plus.

I don't know if Lazenby would have been a good Bond in any other film, but he was great in OHMSS. He had that boyishness to his character that really fit in well with the plot.

The new Bond bears little or no resemblance to Brosnan. Casino Royale was a good movie, but it really didn't feel like a Bond flick.

Here's Fleming's impression of what Bond would look like:

I think Craig looks more like this than Brosnan did.

I said I like the new one compared to Brosnan not a look a like also he brings a new taste to it also cause he is a Blonde all Bonds from when I remember was Jet Black or Brunette.

Yeah, it really is just the appearance that changes the total feel of the movie. He looks so much younger and he's blonde, so it's hard to believe the studios went with this choice. But hey, if it satisfies other Bond fans (which is obviously did when you look at the box office numbers), that's cool. I'll probably eventually see them all as rental fare.

Well its also weird seeing an Englishman as a Blonde too for the movie since most are usually red or brunette. But I personally thought it was pleasing for how he did.

OK, well I caught Casino Royale last eve on Showtime. Interesting.
I agree. It did not seem like a typical Bond flick for some reason. Good movie, just not what we are used to. Hell, you did not even get the opening bond music with the view down the barrel of a pistol. Not that this is bad, but you just start to expect to see that.

The new Bond, Blond is very lean and jacked-up (he obviously works out big time and watches his carbs! :p) He IS a dark character. The torture scene was very realistic.

I think Broccoli's daughter is moving Bond into the next century on purpose. May be a good call. We're out of Flemings's books anyway, so what we ge tnow is what Hollywood can concoct! ;)

I think the reason behind putting the gunbarrel scene after the teaser rather than before is because he wasn't really a 00 until the two kills he makes during the teaser. It was certainly a big break from what Bond has always been, though. It looks to me like they're going to focus on having an underlying plot besides the plot of each movie. That will make it more interesting than just seeing what settings, weapons, and villain's method of dying we're going to see in the next movie.

I agree and am hoping for the next one to be good and give Bond a good new definition.

Agreed as well.

The more I think of the movie, the more I liked it. It was realistic - to a point. It is Hollywood! ;)

I'm a pretty rugged S.O.B., and I work out daily with Iron and endurance, but you torture me like that and whip my old boys with a rope and I'd be whimpering like a baby, not to mention months if not years of recovery, if I survived at all! :p

The ball thing was hard core I like what he said (don't 100% accurate) " The right one now" Smack* "Now your giving me the orders Mr. Bond" "Now everyone will know your scratching my balls".

Dya know what Zack, th whole James Bond thing just passes me by. I don't think I've ever seen a James Bond movie. For some reason it just doesn't appeal.

Having said that, many of my friends are avid fans, and they are raving about Daniel Craig and the new film.

I had a feeling. Thanks E.
I was just curious if England had Bond Fever or if the British simply ignored it.

As a "typical Yank" (for what that's worth), the mystique of a classy British Agent was alluring. I read Flemming's books, I watched the early movies, and enjoyed them. As I said, Flemming wrote the guy as a very dark agent. Basically a British Bad-Ass with a License to Kill. That's how I envisioned British Agents growing up, anyway.
Based on the books, I have always respected British Intelligence. ALSO - I had a friend years ago that was a Navy Seal, and he went through the British S.A.S. training. Said it was fierce! He showed me one of his training manuals. Yikes! I'd not want to piss off anyone that went through that training! ;)

Thats one thing i will truly agree with 100% Seals or even any military man is not a person you truly wanna piss with. I say this with greatest emphases that you better know how to fight or you will get fucked up big time.

I'm really into endurance sports, and I'm in pretty damn good shape, but I don't think I could complete Navy Seal training. I don't do well without sleep, I need food on a regular basis to keep my stamina up, and I'm too lean to to sit on the beach at night freezing to death. The guys that do this and get to wear "The Trident" are rugged bastards to the 10th power, for sure. Not people I would want to mess with.

This movie wasn't too good, even Bond requires just a little bit of script.

But then again, lots of mindless action, I got what I paid for, I guess.

I was stationed in germany when i made the aquaintence of a SEAL team leader named sean...he wasn't very big, about 5"9 and maybe all of 160 pounds...the way i met him was rather spectacular, tho...i was drinking an irish coffeee in an irish pub down on kaiserstrause in frankfurt, when a bunch of rowdy marines walked in, shoving their way through the bar and generally making asses of themselves (note: i have nuttin against jarheads, there's asswipes like this in every branch of service)...the biggest one, probably 6' 2" and about 225 or so walked over to this little guy sittin on a stool at the bar and started talking shit to him...the little guy was sean...i dunno what the marine said to him, but suddenly sean threw the rest of his shot into the big guy's face, punched him in the nards  then proceeded to pick that big fucker up and THROW him through a plate-glass window!! i got up and took on one marine, cause it was like 4-1, but i doubt he needed it, cause by the time my opponent fell to a mug across the skull, 2 of the 3 were out cold and the last one was on his way out the door in a hurry...well, the mp's showed up, and sean and i got aquainted while doing 48 hours for drunken brawling...that dude was one bad man

Good story, Tek. I've competed in Ironman competitions, with ball-busting 8 hour swimming/biking/running. But the SEAL training makes that look like a walk in the park with a Cocker Spaniel. Those boys basically have weeks of Ironman competition non-stop, combined with VERY little sleep and near starvation levels of food. I can't imagine fucking with a SEAL. They are trained to subdue immediately, and to kill quickly if required. Not the kind of boys you want to piss off.

I had a friend that was UDT (Underwater Demolition Team) that worked with the SEALS. He was bad-ass enough.

In a combat situation? I'd want as many of these Bad Boys as possible around me!

the thing many don't realize is that a seal team is usually between 5-10 guys, zack...they have to be the baddest dudes around simply for the fact that they are constantly in enemy territory without backup...hell, i couldn't make it through BUDS even in my prime, and i ain't tootin my own horn here, but i weren't no slouch back in the day...i could turn an 11 minute 2 mile run, and could have competently competed in marathons, not to mention i held the confidence course record in ft mcclellan alabama when i went through boot...

Apparently it's pretty good the new movie it just broke the box office with about 70.2-70.5 give or take. But it's the best of any Bond movie with the money for box office.
