I've been thinking about something lately, and, well I could write my thoughts here or I could just link to this:

Any thoughts?

I agree. It is defiantly a weird American trait (though it is shared by other cultures). I think that it stems from our Anglo-puritanical origins.

It's even affected me, to an extent, because it's hard for me to say that there are guys I'd hug, and really the only man I ever hug is my father. I wish that wasn't the case, but it's something that's been implanted in my mind. On the other hand, if I were living in a society like Italy, to stay with our example, I probably wouldn't have a problem with it.

I find it a little easier to hug other guys than you appear to. My dad, easily. I hug uncles too, (though that seems awkward sometimes), and I find times to hug good buddies every now and then. All it really takes is the guts to spread your arms. If he doesn't have the guts to accept the offer then it's always fun to grab the self concious bastard and force it on him anyway!

I think it has more to do with the fact that I'm not really friends with any guys in real life. I'm a ladies' man. :D

I do the same as BBO when people dont want to hug, LOL. A good way to get someone into the "hug" is by shaking hands and then going right into the one armed hug. Pretty much what a lot of black people do (I'm not a racist) just a lot of black people do that, I do it to! But my friends are kool so I do the full two armed hug. Well, me and most of my friends are either Cuban or our parents are, so hugging and kissing (on the cheek of course) among family is the norm. So hugging friends is no big deal.
