Israeli date trees are now yielding 400 pounds/year and are short enough to be harvested from the ground or a short ladder. Israel the 100th smallest country, with less than 1/1000th of the world's population, can lay claim to the following:

The cell phone was developed in Israel by Israelis working in the Israeli branch of Motorola, which has its largest development center in Israel.

Most of the Windows NT and XP operating systems were developed by Microsoft-Israel.

The Pentium MMX Chip technology was designed in Israel at Intel.

Both the Pentium-4 microprocessor and the Centrino processor were entirely designed, developed and produced in Israel.

The Pentium microprocessor in your computer was most likely made in Israel.

Voice mail technology was developed in Israel.

Both Microsoft and Cisco built their only R&D facilities outside the US in Israel.

The technology for the AOL Instant Messenger ICQ was developed in 1996 by four young Israelis.

Israel has the fourth largest air force in the world (after the U.S., Russia and China). In addition to a large variety of other aircraft, Israel's air force has an aerial arsenal
of over 250 F-16's. This is the largest fleet of F-16 aircraft outside of the U. S.

Israel 's $100 billion economy is larger than all of its immediate neighbors combined

Israel has the highest percentage in the world of home computers per capita.

According to industry officials, Israel designed the airline industry's most impenetrable flight security. US officials now look (finally) to Israel for advice on how to
handle airborne security threats.

Israel has the highest ratio of university degrees to the population in the world.

Israel produces more scientific papers per capita than any other nation by a large margin - 109 per 10,000 people --as well as one of the highest per capita rates of
patents filed.

In proportion to its population, Israel has the largest number of startup companies in the world. In absolute terms, Israel has the largest number of startup companies
than any other country in the world, except the U.S. (3,500 companies mostly in hi-tech).

With more than 3,000 high-tech companies and startups,! Israel has the highest concentration of hi-tech companies in the world -- apart from the Silicon Valley, U. S.

Israel is ranked #2 in the world for venture capital funds right behind the U. S.

Outside the United States and Canada, Israel has the largest number of NASDAQ listed companies.

Israel has the highest average living standards in the Middle East.

The per capita income in 2000 was over $17,500, exceeding that of the UK.

On a per capita basis, Israel has the largest number of biotech startups.

Twenty-four per cent of Israel's workforce holds university degrees, ranking third in the industrialized world, after the United States and holland and 12 per cent hold
advanced degrees.

Israel is the only liberal democracy in the Middle East.

In 1984 and 1991, Israel airlifted a total of 22,000 Ethiopian Jews (Operation Solomon) at Risk in Ethiopia, to safety in Israel.

When Golda Meir was elected Prime Minister of Israel in 1969, she became the world's second elected female leader in modern times.

When the U. S. Embassy in Nairobi, Kenya was bombed in 1998, Israeli rescue teams were on the scene within a day -- and saved three victims from the rubble.

Israel has the third highest rate of entrepreneurship -- and the highest rate among women and among people over 55 - in the world.

Relative to its population, Israel is the largest immigrant-absorbing nation on earth. Immigrants come in search of democracy, religious freedom, and economic
opportunity. (Hundreds of thousands from the former Soviet Union)

Israel was the first nation in the world to adopt the Kimberly process, an international standard that certifies diamonds as "conflict free."

Israel has the world's second highest per capita of new books.

Israel is the only country in the world that entered the 21st century with a net gain in its number of trees, made more remarkable because this was achieved in an area
considered mainly desert.

Israel has more museums per capita than any other country.

Medicine... Israeli scientists developed the first fully computerized, no-radiation, diagnostic instrumentation for breast cancer.

An Israeli company developed a computerized system for ensuring proper administration of medications, thus removing human error from medical treatment. Every
year in U. S. hospitals 7,000 patients die from treatment mistakes.

Israel's Given Imaging developed the first ingestible video camera, so small it fits inside a pill. Used to view the small intestine from the inside, cancer and digestive
disorders

Researchers in Israel developed a new device that directly helps the heart pump blood, an innovation with the potential to save lives among those with heart failure.
The new device is synchronized with the camera helps doctors diagnose heart's mechanical operations through a sophisticated system of sensors.

Israel leads the world in the number of scientists and technicians in the workforce, with 145 per 10,000, as opposed to 85 in the U. S., over 70 in Japan, and less than
60 in Germany. With over 25% of its work force employed in technical professions. Israel places first in this category as well.

A new acne treatment developed in Israel , the Clear Light device, produces a high-intensity, ultraviolet-light-free, narrow-band blue light that causes acne bacteria
to self-destruct -- all without damaging surrounding skin or tissue.

An Israeli company was the first to develop and install a large-scale solar-powered and fully functional electricity generating plant, in southern California's Mojave
desert.

All the above while engaged in regular wars with an implacable enemy that seeks its destruction, and an economy continuously under strain by having to spend more
per capita on its own protection than any other county on earth.

AND THE FRENCH AMBASSADOR IN ENGLAND SAYS :
"ISRAEL IS NOTHING BUT A SHITTY LITTLE COUNTRY"

Intel wireless plans begin with new chip

The Pentium-M (http://news.zdnet.com/2100-9595_22-254703.html?tag=nl), which comes out of Intel's labs in Israel, seeks to solve one of the historical problems with Pentium notebooks: power consumption. Despite new chip technologies and industrywide efforts in the 1990s to increase overall notebook energy efficiency, growing screen sizes and faster chips wiped out many of the conservation gains. Intel-based notebooks still typically conked out after two to four hours.

You're sick, beelzebub (and ignorant). What makes Americans so special that we needed to remove all those Indians to give them a state? And, they (Israel) "removed" NO ONE, in fact, they strongly asked all Arabs (so-called "palestinians") to stay and join with them to build a strong democratic nation. The Arabs decided to leave and attack them, get your history straight, "mensa" member. Perhaps we are controlled too much by those that hate Jews!?!?!?!?!?!?! By the way, beelzebub, Israel is one of the most racially and culturally diverse nations in the world, way beating out the United States in that manner. It is also an extremely successful and open wonderful example of an advanced democratic nation. Show me even one muslim / palestinian 'nation' that even comes close to Israel's free democracy. Israel is an awesome nation and the world should be extremely proud of what they have accomplished and strongly support them! In other words, beelzebub, the world needs as many democracies as we can get our hands on.

Uhhhhhhh… You assume that I think that that is OK? What does that have to do with Israel?

And, they (Israel) "removed" NO ONE, in fact, they strongly asked all Arabs (so-called "palestinians") to stay and join with them to build a strong democratic nation.

So if China took over your state and they said wanted you to stay and work "with them" would you? What if they instituted the state religion as Buddhism?

The Arabs decided to leave and attack them, get your history straight, "mensa" member.

Perhaps you should check YOUR facts non-mensa member
"Immediately following the adoption of the Partition Plan by the UN General Assembly on November 29, 1947, David Ben-Gurion tentatively accepted the partition, while the Arab League rejected it. Organized Jewish militias like the Lehi, and Irgun stepped up their attacks on Palestinian civilians and British officers. Scattered attacks on Jewish civilians turned into widespread fighting between Arabs and Jews, this civil war being the first "phase" of the 1948 War of Independence."

Perhaps we are controlled too much by those that hate Jews!?!?!?!?!?!?!

Perhaps you are right.

By the way, beelzebub, Israel is one of the most racially and culturally diverse nations in the world, way beating out the United States in that manner. It is also an extremely successful and open wonderful example of an advanced democratic nation.

And... What does that prove? The point of this argument is that I don’t agree that Israel should have been created. I don’t care how successful it has become or how diverse they are. That does not legitimize their creation.

Show me even one muslim / palestinian 'nation' that even comes close to Israel's free democracy.

SOOOOOO.... The free democracy of Israel makes the decision to take away land from all those residents just and right? I don’t get you!

Israel is an awesome nation and the world should be extremely proud of what they have accomplished and strongly support them!

I don’t agree.

In other words, beelzebub, the world needs as many democracies as we can get our hands on.

I agree, but I don’t think we should do so at whatever the cost.

What does justify the creation of a nation then? I am assuming that when you say "those people" that you are referring to Palestinians. The problem here is that in order for Israelis to have taken that land from them the Palestians whould have to had control of it. Truth is they didn't. They never did. Also the idea of Palestinians (as modern media thinks of them) to begin with is fairly recent. Infact prior to the 1967 Arab-Israeli war there was no serious movment for a Palestian homeland. It is true that during that war Israel captured Judea, Samaria, and eastern Jerusalem. But these territories belonged to Jordanians not to Palestinians. Isn't it odd that only after Isreal's victory the Palestinians suddenly realized they didn't have a country of their own?

You often say very clever, intelligent things hells'Bellzebub....
But If Buddhism was instituted as the world religion, mankind would elevate to a level of existance beyond war, discrimination, etc. etc.

"Buddhism has the characteristics of what would be expected in a cosmic religion for the future: it transcends a personal God, avoids dogmas and theology; it covers both the natural & spiritual, and it is based on a religious sense aspiring from the experience of all things, natural and spiritual, as a meaningful unity" A widely cited, but spurious quotation attributed to Albert Einstein.

-for my thoughts on Muslim nations, and their hybrid of government and religion? Any religion condoning violence for any purpose, and this does not exclude that religion alone, should be outlawed and eliminated.

I applaud the BS members for being so rigid on "getting the facts straight".

You are assuming that the people subjugated to their new religion would accept it.

This example would probably end up like the Middle East. The only difference would be that the Buddhists would be harassed and knocked around until the Christians figured out that they were really good and wholesome people (sort of reverse India circa 1940's)

Nice rebuttal Bellzebub. I guess I was kind of conceded in my thinking that "the world" would openly accept Buddhism--IF it were instituted as the worlds' religion. I think people, for the most part, tend to blind themselves for fear of stepping outside of the norm, or loosing in a makeshift chess game of psycological warfare. But that's also the beautiful thing about diversity, the many different views
Which brings me back to the statement, in which 'we' agreed upon, that any "religion" condoning violence has overstepped its purpose and bounds, both politically and spiritually...and therefore should be eliminated!

May I point out some things

-Israel was created because the British interfered too much in Middle Eastern politics, thats why the country is in a bad state.
-They allowed Islamic people in their country due to pressure from Jordan, Syria and Egypt, not because of charity.
-Israel has been constantly involved in political strife with Islamic people since its inception.
-Israel's jingoisms and views do not apply to the Jewish diaspora.
-Israel is not a good example of a democracy due to the lack of separation of church and state and also its agressive policies. Imo, Israel is no better than the Islamic nations in terms of being conservative.
-I am not proud of Israel. It stands as one of the many testaments to the detriment western meddling has done in that region.

Why do we need as many democracies as possible? Not all democracy is good; remember about McCarthy, and also the Australian parliament now.

Not all democracy is good; remember about McCarthy, and also the Australian parliament now.------------ The Jews were in Palistine as early as the 1820,s. Under the Balfour Declaration of 1917. The British gave the Jews approval to be in Palistine. During the 1930,s due to Hitler's persecution of Jews, they filled Palistine up. But after WWII, the U.N. granted that Palistine be split in to Two countries. Half for Palistine, the other for Israel. It was the Arabs in the surrounding countries that made all the protests. When the British with drew in 1948, the very next day, the Arab forces from Egypt, Syria, Lebanon, & Iraq, invaded. In 1949, the Jews chased the Arabs out, and took the rest of Palistine, for their own. So if the Arabs would have stayed out of it, the Palistine people would have had a country.

Cool, it's just bitching to see someone post the truth about Israel. (Not that a few others haven't, but it is still way cool). http://forum.bullshit.com/images/icons/icon14.gif

..............You know, the religious aspects were there before the politics were. Whats right is rightious. The people in Israel have, and are continuing to fight for what was rightfully, giving to them from the world, the same way we did, fighting off the British. Except, they are sticking to their guns. At one time, Israel was twice the size they are now. Through "peace", they gave half of it back. The post the other person made to you about muslims, pissed me off. so what I know about Israel had to be told. I know a bit more too. By the way. I'm not even Jewish.

In that case lets give it back to the pagans then. They were the first ones there. Its this sort of 'oh we owned that bit of land 1000 years ago so it ours' crap that is causing problems in Greece and Turkey right now.
