I saw those all over the place in Italy. I thought they were really cool when I was there, but maybe just because I haven't seen one in person in a while and pics always make them look bigger, but they don't impress me that much anymore. They look about the size of a mini.
What's funny is that the police in Capri used Smart cars. They're only two seats, so we were joking about how they had to strap the criminals on the roof. :D

No way I would buy one of those pieces of euro-trash! Hell, my car might get stepped on by someone walking across the street at a red light and smash my hood. Too damn dangerous! What's so smart about them? Some stupid soccer mom yaking her ass off in her broken down SUV on the her cell phone or yelling at her pile of kids would never see me while she plowed her dent mobile into my bumper and turn my “smart-car” into flattened pile of stupid nothing with me in it! No way, dude!! :(

I wish, dang, it would probablly be cheaper. Get some 40's of some White lightning or something, or a handle of Captin Morgan be like running high octane.

Personally, I'm not in the market for such as small car. No matter how much the petrol is, I'll rather go for a car that has a crumple zone and wont get seen and then run over by an SUV.
But the car's not as bad as it seems. Its really strong and it holds its shape on impact. This means that there's no intrusion when crashed so its relatively safe in low speed crashes. But when its a high speed collision what matters is both the structure and the crumple zone. Since the smart is a city car and most collisions will be low speed its size should not be a concern regarding safely.
Anyways, i've attached a pic of a smart being crashed.

You could always go for two cars. Personally I don't think even my Saturn Ion has a hell of a lot of power to be doing freeway speeds. I mean, she's got a bit of a kick but there are times I feel like I can't get the thing up to 60 no matter how hard I step on it, although this is usually just on onramps. So I can only imagine the smart car can't have a ton of acceleration to it at high speeds.
This is coming from someone who'd probably only be happy with a Camaro, so take that as you will. :D

I'm in south east alaska, and if you google any city down here, you will notice it rains 7/8 of the year, something like 130 in a year. So, I just make sure I wear my helmet, keeps the rain from stinging real bad, You could also wear rain gear which works well.
