So? What of it? Most fairy stories have bullshit like that in the story line. The quran is a fairy story like any other bullshit fairy story. The only problem with the quran is that there are psychotic serial killers running around the planet slamming jets into buildings that believe if they do so and kill thousands of people it will earn them their own group of young virgin boys to have sex with forever in muslim heaven. Do a search for the term "excommunication" on that page. You won't find it because it isn't there.

It did cause a controversy because until that point, various places in the Bible made vague references to the Earth being the center of the universe. This wasn't a matter of faith but simply the fact that they didn't really have the same mentality back then as they do today. Perhaps they had a certain flaw in understanding, or had become complacent with the way things were. The fact is, the Earth not being the center of the universe is not and never was harmful to our faith. They only thought it was because they'd gotten used to believing the opposite.

christians do not oppose science only the misuse of it. the theory of evolution has major flaws that have not been ironed out logically it doesn't make sense aleast not as i understand it so until these flaws or fixed i do oppose teaching it in schools unless other theories or given as well but any other theory put forth is labeled christian insanity and quickly discounted. and many of the discoveries in science in the last 100 or so years have been discovered or classified by christian scientist go figure. i can not offer proof of the existence of god that whould satisfy nonbelievers but they can not disapprove him either. i do think your figures are alil off though if i am not mistaken it is much higher than 22%. as far as jesus coming back in the next 50 years i do not claim to know nor will i ever claim to know. that date will be set by god so i feel no need to give him my input on when it should happen.

I feel that with today's "popular beliefs", or practices of viewing the world around us. It is easier to believe in god than not.

Sometimes one even has to make it a personal joke of doing so.
However, as mankind evolves, more so mentally than physically, maybe the future of humanity will be more open to the neccessity of "hard" physical proof before accepting a thing.

I feel that religion is like a childs story book, it is good for them to believe in something as magnificent as a heavenly father, until they grow-up old enough and wise enough to understand that that power it essentially yielded to them, under their control, and that they are truly the only ones responsible for their actions, their future, and ultimately their demise.
