You know Psystar has this thing called an "OpenComputer"
Well, I don't entirely agree with their definition of "Open" so I made my own "OpenComputer"

No, it's actually 100% functional, just installed on a piece of fiberglass wood shit out of a desk. It's that shitty M789CG with the 1.2GHz processor I told you about.

Not as good as it would in an acrylic case.
There's one I particularly like:

I had my computer on my desk like that for a few years, I just recently got a Thermaltake Armor+ for it. I was building a case for it but I ran into too many stumbling blocks. I'll find another use for that wood though.
The Thermaltake Armor+ is awesome though. The HDD trays are really slick, and all of the wires are routed behind the (removable!) motherboard tray so you can't see them. On top of that, it comes with a nice 240mm (about 9 inches) side fan. :D
That cube is also really awesome, but it wouldn't be big enough for my cooling tower. As it is, half the reason I had to get the Armor+ is because few cases actually are big enough for it.

I'm not quite sure I understand what the fascination has been with these gut-displaying cases. I never liked seeing the inside of a telephone, and I don't care to see the inside of my computer either, and I would NEVER have the inside of my computer exposed on a desk like that first picture.. that's a good way to touch that certain wire that shoots key caps out of your ears..

I wonder what someone from 1948 would think if they saw that clear cube computer suddenly appear in front of them? People who were used to this...

Honestly, I had my computer out in the open for years and never had a problem with it. I would literally not even bother to shut down when I would swap fans. I did have a bunch of books fall on it. That was pretty startling and prompted my getting it into a case quick, but the hardware was all fine. I think a strategically placed shelf deflected the books as they fell.
Computers today are completely tab A and slot B kind of deal. There's no bare wires you can get electrocuted on. Also, in most good cases you can hide all of the wires almost completely. My computer has tons of wires but they are all routed behind the motherboard tray where nobody will see them.

It's a geek thing. If you're a geek, and you walk up to a computer with an ATI Radeon HD in it, they're gonna be like MAN THAT KICKS ASS!!!! but if you have it concealed, no one will even notice.
Plus, it just looks cool with all the neon.

Yore gonna damage it accidentally sooner or later. There's a reason computer cases exist.
