Well being a high school student, I naturally feel that the entire school is fucked up, but this just really pisses me off. The SGA is a nation wide organization designed to give the students of a school a voice, but even if the entire body does reach a final resolution on an issue, if the teacher in charge doesn't like it, it goes away, with no chance of appeal. But, for some fucked up reason, the teach was ok with we said, its the same ol' situation with the next higher up. This means, any decision we reach has to go through about 4 people before it becomes public school by-law in our county. Of course, you say something like this, you get suspended for "disrespecting the school" and "damaging the reputation of a government institution" or some such shit like that...

get your parents involved and put pressure
on the school board
threaten to throw their ass's out of office
Honestly? Life is like that. Get used to it. It's like that in government and in the workplace.

He should take the school to court for violating the First Amendment of our beloved Constitution. Course, the Court and Congress would just laugh and say, "What Amendment?" :(
Cmon guys.First amedment rights? Yell "I have a bomb" in a bank. "I hate the fucking system" in a courtroom."the teacher sucks cock" in a classroom. Student don't have the right to overrule authority based on the first amendment.

The First Amendment has the Right to FREE SPEECH in it. That means I can say what I want, when I want to, and you can't prevent that.
Thats not the reality Rise. There has to be reason. Things like risking a catastrophe or general civic disruption issues. You can't say what you want any time you want while in school.

And, that's because they suck. They don't care, they know they are violating it.
This makes the 1st amendment useless.

So you are saying that you can:
Go into a church on Sunday morning and scream profanity and everyone has to endure it?
Talk non stop during a class and the other members of the class must listen?
You can speak your mind during a speech and everyone must give you your time?
Free speech means to me that you have the right to express your thoughts without persecution. It does not mean that you are allowed to be disruptive unless the venue warrants such (ie protest).

Public disturbance isn't a matter of free speech, it is an act unto itself. There are a lot of things that are 100% legal that still can be done to the point where it is considered public disturbance. That doesn't make the act itself illegal, just the fact that you are committing public disturbance. You can't have sex in public or blast loud music at 3:00 AM either, but having sex and playing music are still perfectly legal.
Your right to free speech doesn't mean anyone else has to listen, either.
In the case that Pantera is talking about, the SGA's purpose is to represent the students before the school administration. What good is representation if the administration has the power to shut them up? That's a load of garbage.
That's one thing that is great about the UK, parliamentary privilege prevents anyone in parliament from having to answer for something they said in session. They also have a "Prime Minister's Questions" tradition where the PM listens to complaints and questions from members of parliament. The parliament often voices disagreement with the PM, whereas here in the US everyone just claps when they are cued to do so. I do not agree with the parliamentary form of government but I think that level of accountability needs to be seen here in the states.

I know, I know... I was just focusing on the "whenever I want" part of his statement.

I tend to agree with you but I don't know the whole situation. The SGA in some schools run the school and in others the situation is reversed. Overall I see problems with both.
