5/12/2009 Hand Injury Prompts Keith Emerson To Scrap Tour, ELP Reunion
Keith Emerson is pulling the plug on his tour, as well as a proposed Emerson Lake and Palmer reunion. In a post on his website, the classic rocker blames the cancellations on previous hand injuries that he says have left him with nerve damage and unable to, quote, "play the keyboards to the high standard I have always set." Emerson notes he's continuing with treatment, including physical therapy, chiropractic adjustments, and acupuncture, quote, "in the hope that this will eventually get me back on form." Emerson calls the setback "absolutely devastating" because, quote, "music will always be my main key to communicating with a world-wide audience." He also shares his regrets, adding, quote, "I know how much my fans and fellow band members were looking forward to these shows and it saddens me greatly to have to come to this decision and make this announcement." Emerson was going to hit the road with his band, while an ELP reunion had been in the works for the end of the year. Emerson also has a letter from his doctor posted on his website. Hand specialist Katherine Butler outlines some of the treatments the 65-year-old rocker has undergone, and notes their limited effectiveness. She concludes that "medical reasons" are keeping Emerson off the road.
