A car company can move its factories to Mexico and claim it's a free market.
A toy company can outsource to a Chinese subcontractor and claim it's a free market.
A shoe company can produce its shoes in south east Asia and claim it's a free market. A major bank can incorporate in Bermuda to avoid taxes and claim it's a free market.
We can buy HP Printers made in Mexico. We can buy shirts made in Bangladesh. We can purchase almost anything we want from 20 different countries
BUT, heaven help the senior citizens who dare to buy their prescription drugs from a Canadian pharmacy. That's called un-American! And you think the pharmaceutical companies don't have a powerful lobby?
Think again!

I actually agree with you for once, If you like the pharmacies in Canada better for some reason, and you can buy shitty Mexican cars then you should be able to buy shitty Canadian medicine.

So if you bought Viagra in Canada, it's not manufactured by Fizer? Do our wonderful pharma companies make lower quality drugs for export? Or is the uncomfortable truth that foreign markets pay less because their nationalized health systems have far greater bargaining power than our fractured-everyone-for-themselves-46-million-uninsured health system?

But that's not to say that the insurance prices can't be dealt with. Most effectively by getting rid of Medicaid and Medicare.

That's no the point, the point is two pills made in the same factory here in the U.S. . One get shipped to Canada and sold for 20% markup the other sold to an American at 500% markup. Really patriotic huh. This is why big pharma is fighting collective bargaining in this country. The market here is a licence for them to print money of of the backs of the elderly and ill. How is prohibiting collective bargaining free market activity ?

The fact that people may have issues adapting is an obstacle you have to count whenever changing anything. Removing Medicaid/Medicare would lover prices for insurance across the board, we just have to make sure that the pros outweigh the cons.

Please explain how the cost would be lowered by a profit driven cabal of capitalist that will realize you have no alternative to buying their product !? Generally in a free market the more people that want your product the more you can charge for it.:D

No, competition in the market place hinders monopoly prices. Someone can always offer better services for lower prices, even they're only slightly lower.
You don't know much about the insurance industry do you ?
How does the insurance industry differ from any other industry?

I agree with you too.... No reason that prescription drugs should not be able to be purchased from Canada. The only thing is a majority of those drugs DO come from the U.S. They could lower the prices here if they wanted and still be a billion dollar industry but they won't and they will fight tooth and nail to prevent this from happening. Greed I think is the driving force here. Imagine if drug companies actually found a cure for disease that they are trying to band-aid? The cure for cancer or H.I.V. or any number of other killers may actually be found..... but there isn't any money in that now is there?

I see problems arising from buying Canadian drugs... most sites say "buy without a prescription"... without such, you'll fail a prescription drug test for employment, criminal/civil cases, etc.
You can buy them, but the risks seem to outweigh the benefits.
