Now, keep in mind that Blue in this map is Republican. So what's funny about it? Texas voted Democrat and New York, California, and all of New England voted Republican.
Those were the days. :D

Yeah its amazing.
However; Texas was a democratic state for a long time. The state changed parties about 4 years ago when Texas Republicans gained control of the Texas House of Representatives for the first time since Reconstruction.

Well
I'm a big proponent of the secession of either New York City or Upstate New York. I don't really care which; I just don't like having them be part of our state, for several reasons.
New York would actually be somewhat of a Republican state if it was just Upstate New York, but two-thirds of the state's population is in New York City, Long Island, Orange County, and what have you. They flood the polls and throw off the votes for the majority (land wise) of the state.
Not to mention they raise our taxes, and let's not forget probably one of the most annoying parts of living in New York, every time I tell someone I live here they ask if I was anywhere near the twin towers. Yeah, about as far away from them as you can get and still be in the state. :/
I don't know what this had to do with Texas, but whatever. :D

Do you think that the vote of individuals with more land should have more weight?

I don't think the people in this land (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/9/95/Upstate_NY_Map.PNG) should be subject to the whims of the people in this land (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/c/c0/Downstate_NY_Map.PNG). I think everyone's vote should hold equal weight, but public opinion tends to vary by area, and that means that while most of the state area-wise may be Conservative, since there is such a population density in a highly liberal area we all have to live with whatever they all want.
That's not all, though, if NYC was its own state, taxes would be lower for the rest of New York.

The map hasn't changed that much when you consider that Republicans used to be liberals and Democrats conservative.
