Do you think that all relationships have a dominent and a submissive role and do you think they are by gender or by the person themselves?

i think that by nature there will always be stronger and weaker personalities. like there will always be leaders and followers. one usually gravitates tworad the other. i tend to think it is by the person and how they were brought up.
but...that's just how i think.
by-the-way,what's your opionin?:)

Well to be honest my fiance and i are fall into the Dominant Submissive catorgorys big time. My x husband however was submissive by nature to the point of being a doormat to everyone but me and with me he was nasty ugly trying to be dominant and wasnt. In that relationship i ended up being in control of the money and the kids. If he tried to pay the bills they usually ended up with him playing a new playstationgame for a week and the electric getting cut off. He never took responsibility for anything and it was a horrible realtionship and i will never go back to that.

My relationship with Jim is totally different we do things together but he supports me in using a dominant roll. We make deccissions together but he will be the one to say hey honey instead of ordering pizza tonight wait til pay day and then we will go out. Lets try to keep some money in case of emergency etc. He also is not the type of guy to just work a 40ty hour week. When we both work he helps with the chores around the house just like i do. When one is out of work like i am now i do most of the chores but he still pitches in on his day off. Not because i ask him to but because he takes pride in having a clean house and well behaved kids. I couldnt love him more for being in charge. He centers me when i feel like i am loosing control. My last job i was constantly harrassed he asked me to keep working until pay day which i did, but mean while i found out later he put in for a second job so i could quit for the holidays and be home more with my kids.
We have a 50/50 relationship but i can honestly say i am glad he is in charge not that i dont make deccissions in the house too. I do but when it comes to the ones that we cant decide on most times he has final say. He is usually 99% right with his final deccission. ANother thing we do is one does not spend any money with out asking the other first. That also saves alot of time on fighting etc. We grocery shop together and plan meals together so that all are satisfied.:)

I think its by the person... however, i do think there are few, but rare, cases where there is no dominant one, example, two of my friends, one is strong as hell, but doesnt take risks... the other... well lets just say that she has gone to the hospital more times in one year than me in my life.

and there are cases where gender is of no importance, such as the GF of a friend i have, who is shorter, weighs less, and seems much weaker, but can still beat the crap of many people i know, including the BF. (my friend)
Weird the way the world works...

sounds like you have found a wonderful man. i was in an abusive marriage for 10 yrs. that was 13 yrs ago. he was definitly the dominant one in that outfit.
ha, guess i've been afraid to really try since.:o but that's a whole different story.
i wish you success and life long happiness :)

Took 3 times, my first ended with me custody of the child. The second, ended as fast as it started, because of the child. The third time is still the best. My wife and I are partners. No one tries to dominate the other, we both have very open minds and respect each others views.

Life throws some strange curve balls. Some you hit out of the park while others you strike out. Life is also too short to be unhappy in a relationship.

We are just now approaching 29 years together. Lucky me...!:)

You had it right the first time. I am old old. (unless of course its just plain bullshit). More than likely, I'm probably the oldest member of bullshit. Don't worry though, with a little luck, you may live as long or even longer.:p

I agree with ape when you have this type of relationship. You are partners, you make sacrifices, you are equals. It does come from being with someone for years. Life is to short to be unhappy. You know my saying, If I'm going to be miserable, I can be miserable by my damn self.

I'm old enough to be the General's Grandfather. Not your Grandfather...that is true. I do however hear the Rice Crispy's in the morning and just getting out of bed sometimes is a challenge. But I enjoy Life and all of which it has to offer. It's a one way ride......., you don't get a return ticket!:p

Congrats on the 20 years. After twenty, one seems to realize that even when they win the argument they loose the battle. You kinda melt into one and when there is a difference of opinion just say; "What-Ever". (according to Starry that means to Fuck Off).

Is that your picture in your profile? You don't look ancient in that picture. (the only that looks like you are flying a plane). Unless of course, that was taken in the 1970's
