I have noticed a very strange trend and wondered if anyone notices it to or if its just me. This post is not putting young people down I am just very curious about this let me explain.

As i posted yesterday i went out shopping, I noticed different aged people on the sales floor from 18,19 year old to those in their 60tys, and i happened to notice one thing that i also noticed with my last job and it bugs the hell out of me.

Picture this in the shoe department. We have 6 sales people. Two girls in early 20tys a male in his late 20tys two more females in i would say the 36 to early 50s and another male that looked to be in his late 60tys. This is what i saw their was a tv that hangs over the counter where you check out playing Christmas movies for the customers waiting to get fitted for their shoes.
I saw the male in his late 20tys maybe early 30tys hopping around trying his damndest to get the male customers taken care of. The man in his late 60tys was slow and miserable looking and looked like he was trying to move slow enough that the customers would go away and leave him alone.

On the other side the women the two that where in their 30tys to 50tys going at an even pace and getting things done being polite etc the other two girls ( which by the way i felt like slapping) One was sitting on the counter top text messaging on her phone while the other was leaning back against a shoe rack watching the tv. I now notice one more person come over she seemed to be the manager of the set up. She moved around the girl watching tv and told the girl on the cell phone in a kind of joking way hey give your fingers a break. Then she started screaming at the guy in his late 20tys and the two middle aged women that they needed to move faster, and completely ignored the old miserable guy.

I notice this trend alot and keep thinking to myself in about 20ty years when i am in my 50tys are they still going to let these young people act like this hell their will never be any work done. It just seemed to me like these chicks think if they stand there and look pretty they deserve a pay check. The old guy well i don't know what to say about him other then maybe he needed the job for one reason or another but arent you still supposed to be some what nice to the customers. I pitied the other three and felt like asking the manager what the hell she was doing if she kept up with her screaming all she would be left with was two Dummies and a cranky old guy but instead i just shook my head and walked on.
Do you notice this trend or is it just me? because i see it everywhere, from the local grocery store to major shopping centers, even at circuit city and best buy.
I was just wondering if you see it too and what your thoughts are on it?

A good lesson for young people is to work in a fast food resturant. Sure it sucks, but that is why it is a good lesson. It teaches you that you really can't stop working, not even to text you lover or whatever. Sounds to me that the manager you saw was probably young as well. So she probably thinks that young men are all after the same thing and they don't deserve anything but to work, work, work. My room-mate fell victim to this. His new manager is a younger woman. They were closing the store and there were two girls and my room-mate, who is a guy. She let the two girls go home early and then told my room-mate stay and do a couple more things. He told her that he had plans, and he was not going to stay. She got irritated and gave him the little, this is work time speach, and she let him go. He called Human Resources Management and got it sorted out. I was lame that he had to make a call to get her attitude under control.

Sometimes I wanna go back to working at fast food. You don't have to put up w/ as much bullshit as a career oriented job.

That is awesome, that she got promoted I mean. Nothing like sticking it to the "man".

I've noticed the problem in fast food restaurants. I used to work the grill at a McDonald's for two years and I was always rushing while on the job, making sure to have every order filled in 52 seconds or less. Nowadays when I go into a McDonald's restaurant I'll see ten people "working" but never seem to get my order nearly as fast as I was expected to put them out back when I worked there. While I'm waiting for my food I see four employees who don't seem to be doing anything but chatting with each other right behind the counter and I also see 3 people working at the grill/food building line with no sense of urgency at all! Sometimes they're not even moving while my order is still waiting to be addressed on their screen! I mean seriously! When did fast food restaurants stop caring about the FAST?

The problem is that their parents keep saying "put the damn phone down and get to work" instead of beating their ass to teach them responsibility.
