Perhaps the self immolation was a bit over the top :o but good on him for protesting that.

At least he doesnt lynch black people for voting, speak out against HPV vaccines and contraception, or think that Harry Potter sends people to hell. Also, the fundamentalist right is influencing Bush to make war in the Middle East. At least the atheists are trying to preserve our civil rights and equality.

They are fucking nuts. No where in that artical did that guy hurt anyone else. Nor did he promote violence toward others.
Now, lighting one's self on fire does seem a bit eccentric but, so does going to church.

So your basically condoning what he did? Wow, you guys are more blinded then I thought.

Ausinus

No we are condoning the fact he stood up for the separation clause. Not the self immolation (it was a bit over the top).

The Xmas tree burning was ok too.

A man lighting himself on fire over a fucking name, you call that reasonable? I mean, saying anything about a fucking name is bullshit to begin with. Who gives enough of a flying fuck what the fuck it's called? Here's a thought - get a job, asshole!

ajk
12-23-2006, 11:16 PM
I wholeheartedly agree General. People have to realize that if they don't want to celebrate something, then fine they don't have to. But you shouldn't get in the way of those who do want the celebrate it at the same time, which is in effect what you are doing by getting rid of the names.

Im not saying that setting himself on fire was the right thing.:o

You misunderstand how impressionable children are. If they call the spring holidays Easter Holidays, then the children will associate spring with easter, which is not acceptable.

Why not? No one is going to force them to believe it when they get older. Besides when they're younger it's not even about God to them probably, but more the goodies that come with the day.

He is standing up for the separation clause. He's what you would call an atheist extremist. At least its better than lynching a black man for voting and setting a cross on fire.

You know what would be even better is if he shut the fuck up. Nobody cares. If he wants to do some good, get a fucking job. I guarantee you he hasn't got one. Who has the time to light himself on fire if he's got a job?

Why the hell didn't they just let him burn, anyway? That's right, asshole, nobody gives a fuck. Nobody gives a fuck about your message, and nobody gives a fuck that you're burning to death. In honor of your memory, we're replacing all the teachers with brothers and nuns.

I give a fuck, because those names violate the separation clause. Keep religion out of places that is funded with public money.

Again you don't have to celebrate it if you don't want to, but don't try and stop those who do want to from doing so.

Call those holidays what they are when they apply to everyone; not what they arent. Not everyone celebrates xmas; so just call it the winter holidays.

Call those holidays what they are when they apply to everyone; not what they arent. Not everyone celebrates xmas; so just call it the winter holidays.

But then you're taking away our right to celebrate it and our right to wish people a merry christmas.

Ausinus
12-23-2006, 11:41 PM
You can wish people a merry christmas if you so desire. Just dont officially label a school winter break as christmas break because thats favouring a particular group.

If you give enough of a fuck to say anything about it when you should be at work selling freedom fries, then you're a deadweight to society.

What are freedom fries?

General Septem
12-24-2006, 12:09 AM
What are freedom fries?
A sarcastic reference to what french fries were called for all of about two weeks, during that time when the French wouldn't join us in the war.

This dead weight to society happens to have more balls then you boss. I will not say lighting one's self on fire is a good idear, but he didn't hurt no one else. Can't say the same about some fucking retarted religious ass clown now can we. Get a job, ha, I have one and I totally appriciate what that man has done, he has fuckin raised awareness to something that is fucking screwed up. He may have gone about it in a screwed up way...but he never hurt anyone else... and I think you may be a deadweight to society. You have not served your society. Why is that you are scared? Ohh nope, cuz you don't agree with it, that's right....lot easier then saying your scared. Just remeber, as fucked up as this individual was, he only hurt himself in pursuit of what he felt right.

No but he endangered others by lighting the tree on fire among other things.

As if anyones going to go near a burning christmas tree.:p He probably shooed people away or something or yelled out "look everyone im setting fire to this tree to make a statement"

If you asked me he should have set fire to a nativity scene or something.

We have a right to burn things, like the flag, in protest.

Im not condoning what he did, I just agree with what his opinion was.

Oh fuck you hes just making a protest.

So are the people protesting outside of the Planned Parenthood facilities, and usually they don't hurt anyone either. In fact they don't even set fire to anything. Point is, someone could have easily gotten hurt by the burning tree. Your confidence in the governmental safety systems shall be your undoing.

General Septem

You have not served your society.

I serve my society by writing, and I served my society this week by working eight hours a day just to get this new store opened, so that the people in my town don't have to go all the way out to Henrietta to get to a BJ's store. That means a fuck of a lot more to most people than what the school fucking calls their break period.

I watched a video where on pro life protester tried to strangle a pro choice protester.....guy strangling a girl, funny.

The provention of fire spreading isn't a governement saftey system. It's a man who went to college, got a degree, and designs these things.

Your sitting there minding your own buisness, then all of a sudden you see a man walking around with a flag, a gallon of gas, and a determinded look in their eyes. Do you
A) Inquire what is going on and follow the guy around as closely as possible
B) Continue what you are doing because 20 other people just passed you doing the same things
C) Leave because you don't see any cars around that seem to have run outta gas
D) Admire the guys flag

Alright let's take this slow. The definition of balls, as taken from this post, is lighting onself ablaze, which somehow is more special when an athiest does it rather than some "fucking retarted religious ass clown."

First lets take into account why he did this. It was because a -SINGLE- school district simply changed the names of two breaks. Let's note that the breaks themselves are the same, it's just the NAMES.

Now lets compare this to the Monk in 1963 who set himself ablaze and died quietly and seemingly peacefully to protest war. Hm..

Ah, to hell with it, little Mikey and Sarah having winter break instead of Christmas break in one school district is much more worth BURNING yourself over. Seriously people, how can you not condone this? I don't care if you're sold to the seperation clause or not, or completely loath religions, this is just stupid.....

Indeed, veiling one's opinions or having ambiguity in your statements is sometimes a good thing in that situation.
