Verizon posts 4Q loss on $3B in Layoff Costs (http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20100126/ap_on_hi_te/us_earns_verizon)

Maybe co's are just laying off because it's "in". :rolleyes:

Communications companies just can't keep up with trends, Verizon being no exception. Now that cell phones, wireless and cable internet are the norm, many people are finding better deals by just cutting their land lines off altogether (though when I did that I was trading static for static... heh...).

I also tried that for awhile, I now have my land line back... It's only 20 a month and no restictions on call time, My cell provider is verizon though.. not real bad i guess for 3 phones, I pay 118$ a month but they offer unlimited text and free weekends, But where they nab you at is... you have a shared minute plan.:cool:

Our land line (through AT&T, no alternative cos. to pick) was about $90 a month with internet. Now we have a $50 cell plan through Boost, a prepaid (<$20/mo backup cell), and cable internet through Charter for $20. Same price, fancier stuff, no land line. Oh, and no more telemarketers or bill collectors, either. ;)

We use charter as well, I was shocked by the low cost of their plans to say the least.
When i was in ohio i had time warner, Those bastards over charged, Had hidden fees... and don't dare get internet through them..ugh!!

I'm surprised you got a better deal with Charter than TW, though. Around here, Charter was the most expensive of the two for cable TV. We don't even have cable TV anymore, we have a roof antenna and a DVD player.

Charter give us internet, All channels and a first month discount are bill is no where near TW's was.. cut in half nearly for better quality service.

A fairly simple Charter cable TV bill was about $65/mo excluding premium channels, pay-per-view, etc. With phone it's more than $100/mo, and with cable internet I think they get your first born. AT&T was just as bad. Comcast/TW aren't even here.

Ironically, it was cheaper to go with different companies for different services.

It must have something to do with the region, You would think except for promotional catches all their prices and rates would be the same no matter where you are.:confused:

Nope. The sad thing is, there's hardly anything on TV outside of prime time that's worth fooling with anyway. In place of cable I got Netflix. Cheaper and I picked what to watch.

Nearly all the shows I watch on tv are available on the net, legally.

The tv is more of a background thing nowadays, while eating breakfast or something. That and xbox.
