I voted "I don't give a shit", but in reality I don't think any Church would make a good government. I don't think they'd know how to go about inspiring people to do the right thing without employing Big Brother and made everything illegal. The State can stay off our ass, and we'll stay off theirs.

I think the idea of church should be seperated from the PLANET, not just its governments. We already know there is currently very little seperation in Washington, with Bush and his cronies constantly making references to their sky-God and His desires and His prejudices and His favorite nation etc etc. Removing the "UNDER GOD" part from the pledge of alegiance doesn't change the fact that we have political leaders who make political decisions based on their religious convictions. That is NOT seperation and you can see the mess it has gotten us into.

Can you give us a few examples of what you're speaking about?

Thanks,

Fred

Wouldn't it be better to separate state from everything?

 You're saying that Separation of Church and State means that nobody associated with our government is allowed to practice any form of religion? I was under the impression that it meant that the people's right to practice whatever religion they so choose would not be infringed upon. Last I checked, the President is a citizen, too.

Not that he's listening anymore, but statements like this are the type that push us closer and closer to communism/dictatorships.

Anywho, when talking about separation of church and state, which church are we separating? The atheists will likely say the big bad Christian church, but what about Muslims, Hindus, Pagans... the list goes on and on... do we really want hundreds of different religions being pushed by state functions? If not, we may have trouble supporting the most popular faith, since it discriminates against the others.

TAX ALL THE CHURCHES, AND HOLD THEM TO THE FIRE ON THEIR EARNINGS. THEY EXTORT MONEY OUT OF LITTLE OLD LADIES AND WEAKER BEINGS STRUGGLING TO MAKE IT EMOTIONALLY. ANYONE THAT WOULD UNDERSTAND JIM AND TAMMY BAKER OUGHT TO UNDERSTAND TAXING THE CHURCHES.

Originally the laws were written to reward churches for their charity work, just as individuals are tax exempt for charitable contributions. But the churches of today are not the same as they used to be. They disguise selfish squandering as charity work all the time. For all functions outside of legitimate charity, you’re right, they should be taxed accordingly.

Preacher: I will be accepting donations for the starving children in india.

Everybody: Here ya go.

Preacher: $999,999,999,999,999.99 for us, $0.01 for the starving kids.

Other preacher: those starving kids would probably want us to have that penny.

Preacher: true. *buys thousands of new cars*
