"Do you really need it?"
I love and hate it when people say this, and by that I mean I hate when they say it, but love pointing out just how much they have that they don't need. Which raises the question: maybe you do need it, if just to preserve your own individuality.
More definitely to come. :D Any sayings that piss you off?

How can anything be Meant to happen?
i am not sure only that this seems to be a saying they use in Louisiana a lot. An example of this was when we found a bone growth on my sons arm before we went to other doctors they told us that there was a possibility that it may be some sort of cancer. So like any mother i freaked and wanted to get him to another doctor as soon as i could i didn't want to wait for the hospital to get around to referring me , so i started making calls for appointments on my own. My x husband looked at me and said basically if its meant to happen it will in other words if he was meant to have cancer then he does so chill about it. This is just one of the many reasons i divorced him.
Its also like when i was misscarring my x mother in law came in looked at me and said if its meant to happen it will. It's just one major saying that pisses me off

Here's another one:
"-x is the new x."
E.g., "black is the new white" or someshit. It sounds too much like "War is peace, ignorance is strength, freedom is slavery".
See also: "Freedom isn't free".

"i know how you feel"...sadly, i've used this one myself, and it's never correct.:(

"Member lost situational awareness" I absolutely fucking hate it when a mishap report comes out and it is clearly not the members fault but they always put that in there to fault the member. IE: Member was trailering a boat after some high speed maneuvers in the bay. Member did all safety checks to boat and trailer prior to departure. The WX conditions were extremely foggy. Member came to a stop at the intersection, looked both ways. Did not see anything and proceeded across. A vehicle struck the back axle of the trailer. If member hadn't lost situational awareness this mishap would not have occurred.
Apparently accidents don't happen outta the blue.

Accidents aren't complete avoidable. There's always be a chance for accidents, how safe you even do something.:o

Yep, that's why they are called accidents, and not near misses. LOL.
On a different note though, why do they call it an accident when you purposely drive your vehical into something?

"If it doesn't ring up, it's free."
You have no clue how many times I have to hear this in a day. It's always Murphy's Law, too; every time I have trouble scanning something, the person buying it is a shitty comedian and feels the need to brighten up the situation by saying "if it doesn't ring up, it's free". And then they get all smug about it like they said something original.
It's almost as bad as the ones that feel the need to hold up the line for twenty minutes because they have to Jew over a 20-cents (no exaggeration) discrepancy between what they thought an item cost and what it rang up as.
I seriously have to make some kind of sitcom out of my workplace, starting with before the store opened. :D

Probably for the same reason they call obeying the police "cooperation". It used to be true, so the phrase just kind of stuck, even though the correct term now is "compliance".

i agree, tho i kinda feel that it's our own fault. if more people would just take responsibilty for their own safety instead of relying on the police, then we wouldn't have as many social problems.

I hate "OmiGod are you one of those people that believes man came from monkeys?" There is more ignorance packed into that sentence than anyone in the 20th century should be capable of.

"Domestic terrorism". It's just an excuse for the government to issue the death penalty for jaywalking, and declare martial law on a town because they don't air the Propaganda Channel.

"Clean your plate. There are hugry children all over the world that would line up for a mile to eat what you're going to throw away."

Or you could always throw it in someone's face. (I don't know why but your mentioning a wedding reminded me of that)

The phrase "If everyone jumped off a bridge, would you follow them?". This is the universal retort to any mention of "well everyone else was doing it". The problem is, this retort fails to take into account that the whole point of the argument was that a lot of others were doing it - AND ALL SURVIVED.
