Texting: A Whole New Level of Retarded.

When we got our cell phone plan last year, my wife elected to get one of those fancy phones with a built-in keyboard. I have no idea why we needed one with a keyboard and no idea why me. I try to respond to those text messages, but I just can't get over trying to hit the keys with the edge of my fingernail. It takes forever to do it, so I just don't bother.

Anyway, I've noticed that a lot of people don't mind texting with their fingernails - in fact, they prefer to send texts back and forth, over and over. It's bad enough that my wife has one of those cheesy 2k/sec ringtones to some country song I've never heard of, and it's even worse that I have to hear it all night, back and forth, back and forth. Good God...

Here's a novel idea:
PUT THE DAMN PHONE UP TO YOUR HEAD AND CALL SOMEBODY!

Good grief, has conversation become so outdated that we find it easier to send 20 texts back and forth to relay a 2-minute long story??

How about all of these kids that come to class with a homework assignment condensed to 5 lines full of text abbreviations? I think if I had to deal with that, especially in an English class, I would just lose my shit and kick somebody. ROFL LOL WTF OMG YMMV IMO ... that's completely retarded and it makes your writing look like shit.

My generation scared my parents' generation to death, and they scared their parents' generation to death. Must be a boomerang, because the new generation is DEFINITELY scaring me to death.

Confession - I send my children emails as to spelling corrections I find that are necessary on their facebook pages. Yeah - OMG!

As to texting - I don't do it. You either find me on a phone, or it wasn't that important in the first place.

Don't worry, I hate texting in mass quantities like that as well but it is good for saying like one or two things when I need to meet someone somewhere or buy some weed...after all, I don't even have a phone so I don't do it too often but seeing kids in class texting really pisses me off...

Given the choice, I would call people but most of the people in my classes pay for minutes and can hardly afford to pay for calls if they need help in history, psychology or biology. So they text me and I respond. That or they instant message me on Facebook. Or send me a message on Xbox Live.

Also, females love to talk, and I have many female friends(most of whom fortunately prefer discussions of video games, music, and alcohol to shoes and make up), so it prevents me from having the phone on my head all day.

Techno is not annoying. Electronic music is actually quite refreshing, for me at least. I especially enjoy French House, one of the few things that the French did well.
