Production is the next step since the Federal Avaiation Administration signed off on its design in July. Terrafugia has flight tested its initial model as well. Its a car that can unfold its wings and become a plane. Owners could fly into a town, then drive to a meeting or other destination, then drive back to the airport and take off.
Terrafugia said it is developing two prototypes for its flying car, called the Transition, at the Woburn. One will
undergo extensive drive testing, the other to complete flight testing for Light Sport Aircraft certification. Manufacturing could begin as early as late 2011.
Transition is expected to initially be priced at between $200,000 and $250,000. The company said it already has accepted refundable $10,000 deposits for vehicles that were expected to be built during the first two or three years of production.

Honestly when it comes to self propelled air vehicles we should employ some kind of system that uses helium to gain propulsion
Transporter beam --- nothing else will satisfy me. *crosses arms, stomps foot*

I remeber back in the early 90's i had a buddy, Named fred he was an old nam dude... and his sister bought him one of those hobby "do it yourself" helicopter kits.
He put this damn thing together, I was standing there drinking beer watching his drunk ass fly over soddy lake... the engine was cutting in and out, sputtering and what-not afterwards he made an abrupt landing and he says "c'mon DC it's a two seater" i said "ha ha ha...fuck you!"... You're a nut you aint gettin me in that death trap.
Sure enough he went to take off got up about 40 ft. or so and then nose dived into the rose bushes behind his house and broke his collar bone and leg. crazy basterd, the shit people do...
