View Full Version : Gender Identification is a line of crap.

Until a few years ago I never even considered the thought of gender identification. Some may call this post inflammatory and discriminatory but I really do not care. I will not show any extra respect because somebody is lesbian, gay, bi-sexual, trans-gendered or just chooses to dress in a manner opposite their gender. If you perceive this as discriminatory or inflammatory I suggest you stop reading now.
I have seen organizations that will have events targeted towards womens issues yet they will allow men who identify themselves as women. I am quite willing to bet there have been women who chose not to participate because they have seen or heard men would be allowed to attend. Does it really make sense to effectively deny these women a place to work out issues or receive services because of a minority that has chosen to dress differently?
I have also been to service providers who will help with clothing for the homeless. On more than one occasion I have seen men requesting a bra and later a woman is told there are none available. Is it right to give one person something they want thereby denying another what they need. I don’t think so and it really pisses me off when I see this kind of behavior being catered to.
Some months ago the City of Portland conducted a census of those living on the street and homeless. The questions asked were fairly basic in nature.
Name – first and last initial
How long a person had lived on the street.
Had the person slept in a shelter or outside.
Race
and finally
What gender does the person identify them self as.
By doing this the statistics being gathered become skewed.
As stated earlier I do not care what a person sees them self as nor do I care about their sexuality. Fact is neither of these issues have any kind of effect on me. Anybody who would judge a person based on these issues probably has some issues they need to address.

The women are choosing to not to participate, it is not that they are denied access. I see what you are trying to imply but gender is a lot more than just chromosomes and genitals. If am man walks and talks and lives like a woman whats the big deal?

Just curious - Is a bra a want or a need for a woman? I don't think they HAVE to wear them do they?
BTW - You started out with this big long caveat ,... You are entitled to your opinion and to pot it here for discussion and no one should say different or they should go. Isn't that what this place is for? Debate and discussion?

I am sorry here Bulb, but you are rather making Buttless point for him. Gender is very important and the differences in them in certain situations. Identification as a person is involved here, tied up with the mental identities. Those that are confused are, weel just confused or adopt a gender by how they feel and live by it. That remains within the personhood of that particular person and should not invade or disabuse others that feel different.
And sweetie Buttless has stated his opinion openly and honestly therefore is or has the right to do so. And if you disagree, then you may state your position also, without taking it personally. And that is the whole idea of debate, right??? I know that I am not one to even ask that after the freaky thing, but I do know better even if I do not always act on it. The human propensity to do so eh?lol

I dont disagree with you,.. So I am confused why you are disagreeing with me.

Well then,.. we agree again ;) You have echoed my own point again LOL
My opinion on this issue - gender identification is simply the cause de jour. What I truly can't stand is having whatever chosen identity a person chooses stuffed in my face as if their choice is supposed to be as important to me as it is to them.
That is simply NOT the case. I couldn't care less what someone chooses for themselves. I do care that they demand I take notice of their choice. I don't want to and no one is big enough to make me. Including the various federally funded agencies and mouthy pundits.
As to whether or NOT a bra is necessary to a woman --- it depends on the 'volume'. For some it is, for others it isn't. But I agree Buttless, I'd be mighty pissed to if I were to see someone accommodate a desire as more important than a true need, no matter the item in question.
As many take issue with K Street and Wall Street, what they forget is that greed is apparent even in the lowliest of circumstances. That's sad but too often overlooked.
