I got fired..... over a dream I had.
I thought it was a weird dream and told the wrong person about it. It got to the manager, who promptly fired me, banned me from the premises, and recommended that I check into a mental institution, and even told me he had a number if I was interested. He wasn't even interested in my side of the story.
He even admitted that he's had dreams in which violence took place too; he justified it by saying "I usually keep them to myself", as if that makes him any less of an unstable potentially dangerous individual who has violent fantasies. Or at least someone who has weird dreams that they have no control over, like the rest of us.

Are you going to pursue legal action?

Not much I can do. At-will employment means that if you're fired, there isn't a damn thing you can do about it. The only exception is if you believe the termination was on the grounds of discrimination, which a white male cannot exactly accuse anyone of. Even if I could, I can't afford a lawyer anyway.

Hmm, dont say I didnt warn you. Workers rights are necessary in cases such as these.
Good luck with finding another job soon :)

Remember that discussion we had about workers rights? I said that people could be fired for invalid reasons?
Your employer is such an ass. Seriously I had a dream about a coworker once, does that mean I should have been fired because I was a potential rapist?:D

I don't remember, sorry. I'm actually a syndicalist; under that system worker's rights wouldn't be an issue because nobody'd want to screw themselves out of benefits.

Maybe that's what it was, there was a female coworker I hugged in the dream too. :D

I would think it rather commical if I got fired over a dream I had....in fact I would have a written statement of why I was terminated just to frame it in my living room and take many a pics to post online.

I got fired one time and the only time. And guess what for? I got fired because I was "LIVING IN SIN". My district manager (a Methodist Minister) heard about me living with my (at the time) girl friend while not being married.
He didn't approve of our relationship, thus fired me.
I did hire an attorney. However, South Carolina has a right to hire and a right to fire law. But, at the hearing..........he had no substancial grounds for his firing..........thus, I was able to draw unemployment for 1 year. and that I did, and enjoyed every minute of it.:p

I've never been fired in my entire life, and I probably never will be. I get my jobb as soon as my education was over, and I had it since then, and I will keep it for many, many years, even if it makes me to move to a fucking farmer village in the frozen wase of Scandinavia.

So, in your dream, "violence took place"? Since your boss said in his "violence took place too"... You didn't tell somebody you dreamed about coming in one morning stroking a semi-automatic and after a cup of coffee you blew everyone's brains out or something like that did you? I would have kept something like that to myself...

Lol. The lesson here is: never work in retail if you can avoid it. I personally will never work in retail again willingly :D

Do you have another idea? My only ideas of where to go now are as cashiers again. :/
What is it about retail that makes this more likely to happen?

You ever thought about Delivery of some kind? Dishwasher or Short Order Cook at a restaurant? Make computer cases and sell on ebay? Pooper Scooper or Dog Walker. Painter or yard work. Errand Person. Put up some flyer's in your neighborhood. Look in the help wanted adds....see what others are doing that you can also do.
Arts and Crafts? We got kids 10 to 16 yrs old making Roses out of Palmetto Leaves which they sell for apx $7.00 per pop. The average sold in one day is about 10-12.
If you are near a Marina, they usually need dock hands or people to clean their boats. Hey, wash cars.
We had this guy repairing bicycles. Did a very good job, paid for his College and when he graduated. He opened up a Bike Store. Sold and Repair. Now the dude has a Outdoors Store. That's no BS.
GS you put your mind to it..........and I'm sure you will find something. But do yourself a favor and don't do it if you don't like it.

I appreciate the suggestions. You have a lot of great ideas here.
I'm actually planning on eventually starting a business and making computer cases and custom computer parts. I'll probably set up an online store somewhere. I could even call it "General Office" or something like that, because that would even encompass other random woodworking projects I can sell like custom pens, paperweights, chairs, desks, ring holders, decorations, and so on.
In the mean time I'll probably get a job at the local Salvatore's Pizzeria. I'm on real good terms with the owner and I happen to know he was considering me for a driver except that I'm not 18... which I will be in a month. And last I knew there was a couple of cute girls working there too. :D
