I went to get auto insurance on the new car the other day and ran into a really messed up issue that is driving me crazy each time i think about it.
Auto Insurances are now starting to base your insurance rate on how well your credit is. Which i personally think is bullshit. My x screwed up our credit so bad that even after the divorce i found things he put in my name that i wasn't aware of when we were married. One was a direct tv bill and another was a chase credit card. I only recently after almost 2 years found out about the Direct tv bill. I got a letter in the mail that said i had a delinquent account and may loose my active service so i called and it turns out he used my name online and my social number and said that i wasn't home when the guy came and signed the paper work which as i was told was allowed because many people have neighbors come over to let the cable guy in.
On top of that there is a chase credit card that i never had that has an amount of 850.00 dollars on it which was put in both our names without my knowledge. Once again threw the Internet.
The Direct Tv put it under a divorce dispute so i don't have to pay on the other hand Chase is insisting i pay approximately 500.00 dollars to clear up my credit.
Both these items are now on my credit report which because of the divorce i had little credit to begin with so it now looks like i have bad credit.
So anyway i had to go with a fairly new insurance agent because of these so called credit checks so my premium wouldn't be so high which sucks. I don't feel like this should be allowed so i was curious and googled it. There is a lady trying to pass a thing called a credit freeze where only if you give a password companies can run a credit check on you and only if you sign for things such as cable and credit cards that they are valid that nothing over the Internet can be done other then sign up and wait for a paper that you sign to validate that you actually applied for anything.
Which i personally think is a good thing. What do you all think?
